Anybody looking at a cosworth do not think its just an old sierra even my 60 yr old female dentist neighbour knew what one was she came round for a look hearing me start it weekly "oh its a cosworth" you cant play down such a car its no sleeper

Youngsters of today don't have a clue lol. Mines been out of action for a while now so I can only tell the lads at work some know as they went in it but the new ones who are young go on about new civics and stanced 325i's and shit like that. One was telling me about the new celica saying about its power to weigh and how it's a B road basher lol. All I can do is laugh and say when it's back and fully mapped your get the shock of your life

What I mean is that with a Saff it could just be completely standard or modified like mine and a lot of others.You cant tell them apart and one of the many amusing things that have happened to me was I was coming up to a dual carriageway and an Audi RS4 was right up my exhaust flashing his lights for me to get out of his way, This was of course a bit silly as when i left him behind he would not come behind me again even though I slowed down to allow him to catch up! A typical case of not thinking an old Saff could out perform his new Audi.

Thanks for all the input guys. I have now had a long chat with a tuner and I think after weighing up the pros and cons I think I'm going Borg Warner with after market management.
I was very surprised what can be achieved with this set up in terms of bhp and general reliability and turbo lag etc etc so seems like the way to go.

That Oppliger setup for 800 bhp would be way more than a Ł10k engine IMO for a reliable motor and I agree on the transmission although I think that one had a sequential box in it so by the time you have done an R n D diff at the front to take the power thats Ł3.5k, plus a rear beam, the box and rear diff.

Ive been 18 years on mine. The problem is development has not stopped & Turbo's , ECU's & knowledge has kept leaping forward. So take you time & listen to what you are told by those who have kept up with the advances. If its 500bhp your after remember that's just a peak figure its what goes on below it that counts the Torque curve you hit on every gear change is what shifts you down the road not a pub talk 500bhp. Torque comes with Boost so Spec/restrict your engine to make your Power at high Boost remember you are bolting an air pump to your engine so use it. My old 500bhp engine ran 2.9 bar back in 1999 & massive Torque don't do it that way you will end up with an old school Torqueless wonder.

I dont think Ł10k would be half what that engine would cost plus sequential box and everything else that would need to be uprated to take the power. You would need very deep pockets to get that set up!

Cossie Dave said to me that he didn't get wheelspin on his 700bhp setup. I do get a bit with my skinny tyres and much less power although the 6 degree seems to be fine in the dry. I think that 800 bhp car was driven aggressively and was set up like that too...does go though and isn't unruly, he has it in control the whole time but Romain Oppliger knows how to pedal from what I have seen of his exploits.

Watched it again, I don't think it is spinning all that much...,more like whipping through a super close ratio, sequential, gearbox...just really fast from 5-8500 ish rpm....big torque would do that.
Maybe some spin is exaggerating the effect....he posted a vid of a straight line pull and the speedo wasn't keeping up...he said it was a common problem.

Came off a jg rally x engine running 500+ brought in error early on has a plate on it with kiwi stamped on it see if i can find a pic paul

A car with 200 torque needs 15,000 revs to make 571 bhp, a car with 400 torque makes 571bhp at 7500 rpm. So the oppliger car is making about 530 lb ft to give 800bhp at 8000 rpm.
