Max power on a 200 block?
What is the safe max power on a 200 block without liners? Mines a new block on standard bore, not a Turkish block, a new original casting that came from bore ham. I'm fitting a efr 8374 soon just wondering is it worth waiting and getting a nikasil linered block, aim is around 600/620 for now, would this block be safe at that?

It's worth having it done now while it's in bits rather than doing it later or in the worse case it's to late.

Just to add, it's always going to be one of those questions like with the 205 block, I know folks that run 500 conversions on them and they didn't crack, Brom, Dingy, Nutter etc etc, but if I were looking at doing 600 plus I'd want everything out there available that can make it as safe and reliable as possible.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Nikasil is old expensive tech. Go for newer stuff (steel) which you can hone / bore to next size if anything happens.
A 8374 will put you beyond a non-linered block imo. The 7670 is already over the limit.

Il have a chat to a few tuners see what they think, if iv got to go down the road with liners I will just thought maybe I could get away with this engine at 600 ish. I thought a few people were running 600ish on a standard block, doesn't big Justin have a standard block? The price of having a linered block is half way to the price of an alloy block is another thing.

Depends how far you plan to go, alloy block with nice crank etc at 2.2L will give scope for higher power if you get bored and be a nicer engine but it's if you can justify the costs
I wanted more power and after weighing up everything that I wanted the cost was more than I was willing to put into the car so called it a day
So many things you need to budget for, I wanted 700bhp but silly things like breather system was Ł800, exhaust another Ł700 etc etc soon spirals out of control

Just as a guide mate as I don't know what's in your block but my fresh built mountune spec 200 running shot peened rods was told the rods are at their limit at 550

Bit shocked at this thread I thought the 200 block was meant to be good, I know they are old but I thought if anything it would work harden them?
How much is it to get steel liners fitted then?

That is amazing, take it people upgrade them below that power so they can go longer and change the angle of rotation and not because they are on their limit?

I have a linered 200 block and once a new turbo goes on next year I'm hoping for at least 600hp keeping the engine internals as they are now

PassionFord Post Whore!!
700hp on 25+year old rods is plain stupid.
My limits are 550hp on stock rods and pistons these can go higher if carefully with hitting rev limiters and plug misfired as this is what pushes them over the edge with age and power.
I have mapped a few at 600hp and been ok but you pay your money and take your chances is my opinion.

What's your opinion on block strength mark?

Happily retired
No!! didn't have a problem at 838bhp it just needed new shells at 7k miles hence going dry sump. The Block that cracked was my 680bhp engine with a 200shot of 'push' Nitrous so probably over 950bhp on the day. That was in February 2006 lots of development since then.
