Default Camshaft pitting question

I went to pick up some heads to use for camshafts and lifters, I had a bad vibe about the place anyway as I couldn't see the car they came from and the car advertised was last mot'd with 81k on the clock and this fella was telling me it had 140k on the engine, plus even though I made prior arrangements to come pick them up, when I turned up they where still bolted to the engine that was on a shelf, so had a quick look under one can cover and all seemed OK.

Went to pick them up and upon a closer inspection I noticed pitting on the toes of most of the lobes, and some dicolouration on the toes of a couple of others, I walked away from the sale after this as I wasn't happy, now it's wasn't really bad pitting but you could feel it with your finger and see it quite clearly, was I wise to have walked away? I know pitting is bad but reading into it more, some people say minor pitting is nothing to worry about but there isn't any sort of gauge from good to bad, my thoughts where once it starts it just keeps accelerating the rate of wear till they become unusable?

I wanted to put it into a stage 3 tuned engine so they would of been worked harder than usual.
