Default Make sure your smoke alarms are working!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/4419725.stm

Unfortunatlly I was BA crew to go in and rescue the occupants at this property.
Pulled up outside to find the Mother had jumped from the 2nd floor window and the Father threw a baby to neighbours then jumped himself!
We were then informed that 2 other kiddies were in the front bedroom..
Pulled both out alive and are now in ICU with smoke inhalation and burns..

Guess what .... NO SMOKE DETECTORS!

Ive said this before and Ill say it again.... Get a detector, and plan your escape route..
If you havn't done this, DO IT NOW....

Protect your kids, PLEASE

Andy
This is a copy of a topic from another forum I use, posted by one of the users who is a fireman. I know this gets told time and time again, but please please check your smoke alarms...it could happen to anybody

Cheers

Just as a follow up to this:

Lets see how many of us can act on this... Smoke detectors are the price of a couple of beers...If you cant afford that call your local Fire St, & they will come out and fit a couple for you free!! Please do it, if you do have them great, now go tell someone else who hasn't got them, a mate or relative..

Thanks guys

That reminds me, not sure there are any in this place......and I'd need landlord-approval to fit one.

*goes to check*

Nope, none at all......typical, really, the landlord is a cheapskate - shower is barely a dribble, and has two heat settings (almost cold, and skin-searing), and he's refused to do anything about it.

I have the opposite problem, I've got one that insists on going off as soon as you start cooking anything

I kicked myself the other day when I realised I had left the battery out the night before after I had to shut it up that morning.

I will move it first, see if that helps, or buy a new one. There is one upstairs as well, not that I have tested it
