Default £15 worth of unleaded in a diesel combo van.....?

yep im a fucking donkey ....

I just put £15 worth of diesel in my Vauxhall combo van before I noticed and brimmed the tank with diesel (£45 worth) after 3 different folk said theyed put more in theres and were fine after filling the rest with diesel. apparently its worse the other way putting diesel in a petrol......?

just drove home 3 miles and nothing to note so far, would i have used what was in the pipes in 3 miles and be into the mix?....whats your thoughts? (apart from calling me a retard) would you risk it or not?

as my excuse I was in a state of shock after just phoning a Mercedes main dealer for a part price for my petrol AMG merc

I would brim it with diesel. When I put £130 of super unleaded in my diesel rangie the guy that pumped it out said £20 of petrol in a diesel tank wouldn't have harmed it, especially if you keep stopping and topping up the diesel to dilute it, he said some super cold countries add a bit of petrol on a regular basis to stop it all getting cloggynand there is a thread on piston heads where people regularly put a bit of petrol through.

I deal with this all the time in work
It'll be fine,
but as said keep it topped up with diesel for the next couple weeks to keep it asdiluted as possible

my stepdad put about £20 petrol in our Peugeot diesel campervan last year noticed while at the pump, and brimed it with diesel. It drove home ok and seemed ok, but I didn't risk it and had it drained at our house. To be fair our camper van is worth a few quid, so worthwhile doing for us, cost us about £100 to drain as well as lost cost of full tank of fuel, so an expensive mistake.

As others have said, read that about 10% petrol is ok and in some cold countries they put a bit of petrol in anyway, but think we were borderline, so I didn't want risk it.

Mercs can sometimes surprise you
I bought a set of discs for a cls amg 55
Phoned merc dealer for a laugh Realy
Only £60 for a pair of genuine drilled discs from the dealer,
Couldnt believe it, the pads were £170 right enough

If it were me and the van meant anything I would drain it. The pump and injectors require the oily diesel to lubricate it, whereas the petrol is a solvent and can cause it to seize up. I know some who have done as you have and carried on with no problems, but have also heard of a dealership putting £10 of unleaded in a new diesel focus before being collected by its owner, it pretty much wrote it off lol.

£15 of the wrong fuel?

I wouldn't worry about putting a cup of the wrong fuel in

As said petrol doesn't lubricate the pump so it will chew up the insides of the high pressure pump, fill you're fuel system with tiny fragments of metal and eventually wear out the injectors.
Happened to my mondeo st tdci,I got it cheap as previous owner put petrol in it and drove it till it ran like a bag of craps.lasted a while with him but wrecked the injectors and pump, had to drop the tank and clean it out, flush the lines etc.

Did you brim it with diesel after? I would drive until half a tank is left then fill with more diesel. It should dilute it down. How long after filling did you notice your mistake?

Agree Fuz - keep topping up the diesel, run three of four tanks of diesel through then change the fuel filter. It'll be fine.

just fill it with diesel and don't worry about it its only a 1/4 tank, the diesel with still doing its lubricating propertys just 25% less, if your worried when you get to half a tank just top it up with diesel again will be down to 1/8 petrol mix then, that's what id do anyways.

im starting to like those odds....I didn't drive at all as I noticed my mistake whilst filling so I stopped at £15 worth of unleaded and filled it to the brim with diesel then drove. ive done about 12 miles on it with no noticeable difference so far......

My Mrs did the same to my mates Peugeot 307 hdi last year but £17 odds when she noticed. Filled it with diesel and it was all good. Cars still going strong now and my mate reckoned it was faster but then again I could have probably ran faster. Wouldn't bother me at all. My grandad was an old skool Lorry driver and it's a well known fact they used to put up to 25% petrol in there diesel back in the day to stop it freezing when parked up at night. Everyone has there own opinion tho

It should be alright lol.

As others have said, do NOT just use the tank that is in it.

Use some, fill it up, use some, fill it up to dilute the petrol as much as possible, say top up every 100 miles for the next 500 miles or so.

no issues to report today. started first turn of the key this morning and ive done 100 miles without any problems so topped it up again with some diesel.
one of the guys on my site said hed done it a few weeks back but had a roughly 50 / 50 mix with unleaded and diesel and he didn't have any problems either.
