Reusing a gasket
I most probably will get hot down in flames for asking this question.....But please be nice
I can understand a head gasket needing doing due to oil/water mixing...But.....I have been cleaning an upper inlet manifold and lower inlet manifold for my 2.5 V6. I was reading up and it says that I need new gaskets, this would be fine if they did not cost nearly £60! Can I not just reuse the gaskets that I already have? They are plastic gaskets so surely they should be ok to use again.....Or will they, whats the worst that can happen??

I know what you mean but £60 is not a lot of money really. It seems you are doing a clean up job and are being thorough. Don't scrimp on the last bit and have to do it all again. Have peace of mind knowing the next 100k miles should be head gasket trouble free. Just my opinion.

Depends what the old one is like.
If it's in good nick, use away. If you're really stuck, use a bit of sealer.
Some stuff doesnt even use gaskets at all these days, just some sealer...just dont use shite or bathroom silicone or other silly things.

Personally if I was going to the trouble of stripping something to clean it I'd be replacing old gaskets with new as I went along. I'd hate to end up with a rough running engine and having to search for air leaks etc.
