Default Q-reg whats the score...

If you have an unregistered car say like a mk3 shell that was built up for the track and I decided to put it on the road it would go on a Q-reg.. how would the age of the car be worked out? On the engine or shell?
What if you didn't know the age of either?? as the shell had no history and wasn't stamped in anyway.
Hope this makes sense

Q reg simply means "a car of indeterminate age" and nothing more is implied

Haven't seen a Q reg for years. Think it originally stood for "of unknown origin"

It wouldn't need to prove the age, thats why its on a Q plate. You'd need to take it through sva (plenty on the web about sva) and prove the engine was a certain age or older depending on what emmissions it can pass. The you'd have to register it, and because you have no idea of the origin of the parts it'd get a Q plate. It could get an age related plate if you could prove that a certain ammount of the major components came from one car etc
