Lots of nice machining there

Billet steel crank, I would hate to think of the amount of hours to make one of these

Jesus Christ mate what planet are you on. If it is a one off crank designed and manufactured just for sunny, it could easily have cost Ł3,000. I know sunny has a few contacts so may have got it cheaper, but these things aint made of choclate you know.

As the saying goes "How fast can you afford to go"

LOL, sorry mate, I didn't mean to sound arsey.

But just look at that crank and imagine the hours of design work and the amount of time and expertise and serious bits of machinery it would take to make something like that.

My one off crank took three weeks of machine time alone to produce. The design took over a month and the billet alone took two months and had to come from the US. The billett for a crank starts off the size of a tree trunk.

Its easy for everyone with loads of experience of this kind of thing to assume others will know the cost of everything but of course it isn't so!

exactly

this forum is used by top experts and beginner novices...

i know naff all about engineering and costs for a custom crank, after all its hardly common knowledge. Its a specialist subject to say the least...

we all have to start somewhere...

Deano- Hes honestly using the largest T51? The 1000bhp one? He's off his nut!

How the fuck hes gonna spool it up i dont know (well, nitrous maybe).

Ive seen vids of SX's etc in Japan with T51s, but not the 1000bhp one, running 9sec 1/4s...

Steve the great thing about Pauls place is aswell as his dyno he has a Dynopack

He can spend an awful lot of time mapping , changing components etc etc to see what works and what doesnt he showed me the spec of his cams and couldnt quite believe what he was saying LOL

And if it dont work out he can always sling it on my old LM

Easy lads......everyone chill.

glenis - To do things properly first time round things are very often extremely expensive mate. This is where winning the lotto would come in handy. Saying that...if your not going to do it properly I say don't do it at all. Besides with something as important as a crankshaft being a possible weakness when taking things to another level it's just too much of a risk not to do properly.

Regards to time and cost....finally after a 7 month wait it turned up so to be honest I was happy to see the damn thing instead of cry over how much more money I'd lost. Cost-wise, well lets just say Sean is the closest as it was made to spec and indeed a one-off.

Deano - I guessed Paul was using the T51 from your other post.

Thanks - Sunny.

Sunny, I hope you've got loads of progress piccies which will be posted once it's all unveiled.

I don't care what they all finally make, I'm just interested in all the engineering that has gone into them

Just a quick question. Not a dig, but how comes you have very highh BHP figures but relatively low tourque figures? I know of one cossie that has 470 bhp and nearly 430lb/ft tourque which is only 20lb tourque less but 100 bhp less

Yes dave i was talking about you. That was what i ment. Your going to have 500bhp and 490 lb/ft on pump fuel and they are getting 584 bhp on pump fuel and 450 lb/ft. Just seems a bit strange that all. 80bhp more but 40 lb/ft less

only runing 28LB of boost i dont like runing big boys boost,i was shiting me pants at this.I do think these figures are blood good for the amount of boost,im not a big fan of 35-40LB of boost all though i know you get more tourque

Well mines got 508ft/lb @ 2.2bar (32psi) so not big boost .
Runs 2.5bar in the car so circa 530+ft-lb. Its MAD engine spec thats making the Torque not boost alone.

Phil - I aint seen the car for almost a year myself. Got a letter from Greenlight saying that the insurance had expired and I thought shit another year without driving the thing. As soon as she's on the road I'll be passing by to pick up the 2nd best photographer who lives in my area to take some pics.

Paul - I thought I was one of very few geeks that appreciated looking at well engineered components. I am taking pictures of everything however without sounding off-key not prepared to post or talk about certain things as idea's / specs get copied and others take the credit for all of the r&d and cost that was put into it in the first place....I learnt this from my previous engine.....not doing that again.

Thanks - Sunny.
