Default Schould I go AP racing clutch or what?

Already put a thread on that on Escort Cossie forum but here I think I have more chances or bigger input.

Took the gearbox out today for other reasons and checked the clutch. It works just fine but the springs on the discs are loose and rattling. My mechanic/tuner says it will make smooth moving from stationary impossible soon. It is so after 22k km's. Last time I changed the disc for the same reason. It's OE replacement Sachs products. can I only change the disc once again, or schuld I gor AP Racing or what else? It's >300bhp small turbo car and I am little tight on budget as during those works it was ffound out I have to change all 4 brake discs...

Thanks for input

I can see only Ap organic or not-organic first being recommended for road use, latter for racing only. What would be durability difference in comparison to Ford/Motorcraft?

Azrael,
At that power and the fact that you have managed 22k on the OE clutch, you could stick with it. However, if you want it to last longer than 22k, then maybe the extra expense of the AP organic item is worth spending? Just depends on finances, as in this country, the OE clutch can be purchased for half the price of the AP one, but not sure if the AP would last twice as long?

So you suggest 22k km's on original item is normal? Whole clutch looks like new only those small springs are already completly loose.

Having seen your driving style, I would say that it is acceptable for a 4x4 .

I get similar mileage from my Alcon paddle, but with nearly twice the power. I just NEVER launch the car.

The organic one may last 30-35k, but it is twice the price. Obviously if you have to pay the labour each time to fit one, then it may be worth paying the extra for. While the box is out I would NEVER just replace one part of the clutch, as it is a false economy to do so (as the other side will be requiring replacing sooner than the new part you just put in, so the 'box would have to come out again in a shorter period than if you changed over both the cover and drive-plate at the same time).

Is it that bad?

I have to pay but I have huge discounts as my car is kind of rolling advert for the workshop

In fact last time I changed only drive-plate because all the rest seamed like new and I did that 22k and drive plate needs change once more... That's why I thoough it's not up to the job.

If you can afford to stretch to the AP organic item, I would do so, as then you can see how long this lasts as a direct comparison, and then next time you will know whether to go back to standard (if it doesn't last sufficiently longer) or stick with the AP one if it does.

It is difficult to recommend, as people have different driving styles which directly affects clutch life, so it is best for you to experiment .

Mike - let me be more optimistic ~290 bhp

I am not optimisic about budget though. Very funny but everything for Cossie seams to cost avarage Polish salary

Azrael,
That is VERY optimistic if you're still running standard injectors . I'll give you 270bhp at a push .

There are standard injectors cars pushing about 290bhp. Anyway I won't argue because i don't know, it's fast. When I put the MSDpowered ECU on the car after all the work now being done I'm going to rolling road it and I will know aproximatly. For sure it's much quicker then 260bhp WRX-STI
