Yep ap's the 330's with 4 pots are more than good enough for a heavily tuned road car

You cant use there road discs over 700bhp so how heavy are you talking about. You need disks with less cooling to keep them hot so temp differential is less when you try braking from very high speeds or they WILL crack. AP Motorsport department will advise.

But on a 2wd sapphire over 700bhp is pointless.

I don't believe bhp is the issue here, the issue is the use of the vehicle.
If on a circuit with frequent heavy breaking the temp will be maintained.
One hit wonder, high speed runners is a different matter.

Well put your knickers back on and enlighten me to how it doesn't have any traction issues then as I'm clearly doing something wrong with a stage 3 saff with a gripper diff.

lol it has the very best of everything you can buy. Ask rod or mark how it's possible. I only have my knickers in a twist as if I'm honest the one trick pony it only go's in a straight line fast comments are so far from what's real it not even funny. If you went in that car your view on what's really fast would be changed for ever.

All of my high speed runs were done with 380mm front discs and zero cracking.

380 can deal with heat 23% longer than 330 ones which is what the question was about. AP Motorsport were horrified we were using there road discs & braking multi-times from 200mph they advised & supplied the correct discs.

Don't think anyone could image how fast rods car actually is. 400bhp+ feels mega fast on road let alone double that. I used to think my standard cossie was fast when 1st bought it

Kind of on subject, do you know if your 355mm 2WD front discs with six pots will fit under Revolution millennium 17 inch rims ?

AP Racing 6-pot CP9040 caliper and 2-piece disc kit

Thanks

You are doing nothing wrong at your budget. Proper beam with a solid Diff that really grips (Thats why the drag boys use them) Chassis connectors holding front to rear suspension, Modified Coilovers with twin Springs & 235 wide trackday tyres. The real trick is actually in the gearing of course you need massive Power to pull that gearing. Try 67mph in 1st, 102mph in 2nd, 151 in 3rd & 192mph in 4th & yes ive pulled all those speeds. Don't try pulling that gearing with less than 850bhp.

I cant quote specifically on my kits Mark as I'm not a paid up trader but I'd have thought those ingredients would fit inside that wheel. A drawing is needed really to confirm or some simple internal wheel measurements would suffice.

I thought this was about brakes??

Rod your car is a bit of an exception here.
No one else is interested in braking from 200mph....

Cheers Paul

the correct answer is "whatever you can fit inside your wheels"

if you have 18's then you can obviously go bigger than 330 in some cases

362's and 6 pots and i was ALWAYS braking too early on the track, and that's in a car that is going to be at least 20% heavier than the saph

There are a few options for a 2wd Cosworth but wheel type and size may limit you, as already mentioned a 4 pot 5200 330mm kit is popular but you could go 6 pot with larger rotors..

They only rattle because they have no anti rattle springs fitted.

Was told there heat cracked any way so need to go?

I think the calipers can only take the standard size discs as well I would want 330mm minimum

I have asked high spec for a price but there appalling at returning mails

their customer service isn't the best

they are hi spec calipers though

personally, if it were me, i'd sell the whole kit on and get something factory fresh, those discs look like they've got issues too in that second picture

I asked this question a while back and I will be going with AP 6 pots and the biggest disks I can fit under 18" MOs or something like that. Can't ever have enough stopping power!

The 6 pots aren't too much more expensive than the 4 pots so why not just get the 6 pots and be done with it?!

I was also advised that 4X4 callipers and 300/320mm discs on the rear is definitively enough for any(fast road and track day) 2WD Saff, not 4 pots.

I understand funds are more likely the limiting factor but hey we're all in the same boat usually

Philip.

Depending on which when and calliper you go with, 362's all day long with potentially 378's

I was once told massive discs and large calipers can over brake a relatively light road car. And feel too much . So maybe bigger is not always better

you are talking about things like lotus's and caterhams etc where they simply don't have the mass capable of applying enough weight to the front wheels when you stamp on the brake pedal

if stoppers the size of dustbin lids are good enough for btcc cars they are good enough for road cars
