Agreed.
I have bought loads of nos parts for my rebuild and all will be more than they were new when available from Ford.
Not bothered as you can't get the parts anymore so you have to bid to win them, not the sellers fault, simple supply and demand and if somebody wants that part desperately then you're going to have to pay for it.
Agreed some silly parts that aren't rare folk try to pass them off for more than they actually sell for and I remember a time when you searched on eBay for rs500 parts and there were a handful of listings of actual rs500 parts, not the tripe like there is today.

As above, I've sold stuff on eBay for way more than I thought it was worth (not ford parts) but that's the nature of putting stuff up for auction. Works both ways though as I know I've paid too much for stuff as well as I've got caught up in the bidding when you really want something that you can't get everywhere and/or there aren't that many of.

Some folk are chancers with their big BINs just on the off chance...

Nonsense. I put them on eBay and someone messaged me asking what I would take to end the auction early, which was 400 quid. He didn't ask me what I think they are worth!

I have paid over the odds before on eBay to ensure I got the part that I've wanted for ages. Some buy it now prices for both cosworth parts and cosworths themselves are mental.

What can you still buy from Fords for a cosworth? I've asked the parts department before but the guys were pretty useless tbh

Yeah I think thats a bit different. An item being bid up on ebay by potential buyers is fair enough. It's when the starting bid or BIN is through the roof that's a joke.

The single most ridiculous priced item I bought was the rear brake compensator in this pic.
B.i.n was £250 plus £5 postage,I worked out the eBay and PayPal fees and made the seller an offer above what he would have got if I had bought it through eBay,he said no,he wanted more even though I explained he would get less through eBay,he was adamant about his price so I clicked b.i.n just to teach him a lesson,I paid more and he got less than I offered but I felt I got 1 back over him even though £250 was daylight robbery as new the part was £80 ish from ford.

A lot of parts are still available from ford and I always try there 1st as I get a small discount and the parts guy is very very good but sometimes if you need it you need it.

Its the cars themselves that are well overpriced at the moment not the parts Cosworths had been performance bargains since about 1993 but they stopped being value for money about 5 years ago in my opinion, and that's from someone who had owned loads of them since 1991, all I have left now is one engine in component form for my single seater race car.

My mates thought it was hilarious when the £12k 3dr I bought in 91 was not even worth £6k two years later! luckily I shipped it out to Aus in 96 and got my money back and a free holiday

They change the subject quickly these days when I tell them what its probably worth now!

Its a bit like the RS500s now. I fookin love them but there a fortune just for a 3dr cossie with some extra parts on them lol.

The one good thing about our old fords now is that i cant see the prices of them dropping so we wont be out of pocket if we ever sold them.

Last time I looked for a gen 25mm one. I found a part supplier in germany that apparently had one in stock and it was around 500 euros.

Why people are asking stupid prices for the cars the parts can only follow .

Id never pay £25000 for a sierra regardless of badge ,and I deffo wouldn't pay £12995 for a mk3 escort regardless of badge .

And the RS500 ...well the car list for the same sort of money is 2nd hand super car money !

LOL, i understand when people say that if someone wants it they will pay it etc but imo you would need you're head looked at to pay anywhere near that.

The trouble is all the time people with more money than sense keep[ buying all this overpriced stuff the prices will never fall. If some of this stuff was advertised for months and months with no takers you would see the prices start to come back to sensible levels. Greedy sellers really get up my nose!!
