Default Zetec se idling problems

I recently had the cambelt changed on my 1600 focus, and it came back idling terrible. The mechanic diagnosed an icv, although I hadn't had a problem previously. It also had an inlet cam pulley changed, which I purchased from ford myself, although it looked different from the original. The original has a pepper pot design while the new one had a look of a bmx mag wheel. I've since changed the icv, and the vss to cure another problem, but the car is still running rough at idle. It drives fine, but won't idle without the help of the accelerator and it stalls under 20mph as soon as you engage the clutch. I can't hear or feel any vacuum leaks anywhere and have checked around everything that was removed for the cam belt. I'm at a complete loss, any suggestions?

It's been a while since I did one myself but do the 1.6 have a floating crank? Perhaps the crank wasn't locked in position when the timing belt was done and the timings now out like a tooth say?

As said the 1600 is of floating design, it's common for people to get the timing wrong. If this is ok, then check the PCV hoses are ok.

Yerp both the crank and cams have floating pulleys. The cams grt locked off with a piece of bar and there is a crank pin lock at the back of the engine.
