Default Bonnet Latches

I have a 61 Plate Fiesta Metal and the spring in the bonnet latch has snapped meaning I can't lock the bonnet shut. It still catches on the main latch but opens that 50mm to get your hand to the latch and there's no way you can drive that at any speed. Now my Ford dealer tells me they no longer make that part and I have to install a completely new unit (including the wiring back to the cab) at an estimated cost of £200!!! I find that very hard to believe and also the thought of paying £200 to replace a 99p spring is ridiculous.

Can I source just the spring from anywhere or 2nd best, the whole unit?

any advice welcome.

They changed the design of the bonnet latches so the old cables do not fit the new latches, only option is a new latch and cable as Ford only sell the complete latch not separate parts.

Yeah but it's the labour element to fit it that's the problem. A replacement part is only £40. The garage wants £160 to fit it!!

£160 I'd go else else where if I was you. Ford's Labour time for the cable and latch replacement is 1.1 hours
