Porkie - Yeah, i can see where your coming from with the Mid/Read engined thing.. Thinking about it with you mentioning EVO magazine, i remember reading a feature a while back about a RUF3600s. They build a boxster with the 3.6L engine in the back basically a car that porsche where too scared to build because it would be better than the 911. But i suppose at the end of the day it don't matter what the motoring press or anybody else thinks, if you like the car your gonna buy it. I remember my first car, a metro Gti.. Everybody used to slag that off, it got shit reports in the press and the fact that it was a metro didnt help, but i LOVED it It was a bit modded and fitted with 170BHP 1.8 and was more fun than my cossie for tight and twisty point and squirt driving.... argh... ma poor little metty, i does miss her
p.s, sorry to mention Metro and Porsche in the same thread!

The soft top roof can ramp policies higher if its parked on the street... more chance or someone slashing it or breaking in through em. Just an idea anyway

1. Fook me you KNOW your shit!!!
2. The 3600s is the car Porsche were scared to build as the profit margin is soooo much higher on the 911! as a mag said this is the better car in every wayb than a 911 BUT its not a 911....
3. I love metros man!! on my drive right now is Martins 170bhp K series Metro!!!! and as I said I enjoyed driving that car more than the Sierra at the Beds RS day. It just made me laff and laff and laff!

Call that a crash??? I stuffed Martins much harder than that... the roof was kinked!
170bhp in a car that light at 18 is tooooooo much though, I see your point!

the only reason you buy a boxster is because you can't afford a 911.

A very good mate of mine has a 993 model 911, for me they are the best looking porsche made ( imo ) im gony get some picys up of it cos its lovely
His is a 3.6 and its pretty quick, we were at donnington last year wth it, and my other mates 4x4 saph, on the track the saph was a bit slower than the porsche, not power wise ( its a genuine 450bhp ) but handling wise, on the way home we had a couple of races on the by-pass and the saph passed it like it was standing still, this has now forced him to go for a gt3 which he hopes to get this year some time, maybe it will be more closer now, i`ll just need to wait and see

The S2 is a cracking car,if you can be arsed driving everywhere at 110%,has very little torque, and doesn't handle anything like a Boxster does(the S2 has a nasty reputation for hedge trimming...backwards)have spoke to a lot of people who've had both, and they've all said that the Porsche is far better as a complete package, and the Box S is considerably faster.
So your point is?
So your point is?
1. It does have torque - Will still pull from 30mph in 6th without rattling the car to bits.
2. IMO it does handle 'as well' as a boxster s (having driven both)
3. It's reputation for hedge trimming backwards is largely due to S2k owners not knowing how to drive a rwd car properly
4. Yes, the porker is faster in a straight line - just.
5. Then you've got the engine! It may only be a diddy 2l four pot, but what an engine it is! 118.5bhp per litre! so if it were the same size as the porkers it would be making nigh on 380bhp! In fact it has the highest specific output of any conventional engined N/A road car in production today...
Just my thoughts... not biased at all

the only half decent thing about a cossy is the engine...comparing one to a porsche is like comparing tizer to vintage shampoo..
Ive driven most types of porsche and imo they are just ok..they are nippy yes but nothin special imo
