Default Supra Rear Diff Billet Cover

Back in December B13 Jus got in touch with me and asked if i could make him a billet rear cover that would incorporate both rear pieces, at the time i only had 2.5d cad so was unable to design it the way he wanted. But with me upgrading to 3d and now having a better understanding of cad i thought i would give it a go.

Now his a Lovely Lad but hey he doesn't know how to use a ruler, the measurements he give me i took to be true as i didn't have a diff to measure, anyways i ordered material thinking all would be good to find out he was 5mm short on the length and 1.5" to high on the thickness

Said Material

So over the last week ive been keeping my head down working away on this, this is a prototype and still needs a lot doing, another day should see it finished. Im going over to Justins with it on Monday to try it in the car and then i will travel on down to Bara Motorsport as he will check it over to make sure all is well.

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures.

Well done, the 1st thing I thought when I read about the other billet cover was why not incorporate it all into one.

I then had another thought, how difficult would it be to design / make a complete alloy diff casing i.e. so you could take the internals from the cast iron supra casing and fit them into it, and which also incorporated the adaptions required into it so it was a simple bolt in option with no bolt on adapters? (obviously the prop and drive shaft adapters would still be required)

I believe the cast iron supra diff itself is 20kg heavier than a 7.5" Ford diff, and that’s without the addition of the fitting kit.

Now that would be great, huge weight saving and you'd only need driveshaft adapters

With the amount of money involved in cosworth ownership I feel sure if uprated items offered at fair prices there will always be customers, as you can't put a price on quality and peace of mind

If you could save 15-20 kg then it might be worth it as long as it was strong enough?

Just out of interest is it feasible idea?
Is the price down to material cost of machining time?

I imagine in time it will be more cost effective to print something like an alloy case? far less waste as the technology improves

Hi Steve, i showed Bara the process of it being machined and he said its spot on as it is,

Well this morning i set of bright and early and went to Bara Motorsport to have him check over the cover, he was very impressed with it and give it the thumbs up.
