Default removing spot welded wings

I've gotta remove some, never done it before what's best way as wings are genuine ford capri and want to sell them on, anything better than just a drill bit on the spot welds?

Scoobyslayer, there are good and bad ones of these. I had a great one for years, lost it and bought another. The new ones i got are weak and ive went through a few of the holesaw parts from breakages.

don't use a drill use an air saw between the panels once you have separated the start of the panel to get the saw in just take your time prizing the panel then cutting the spot weld , much neater job and only needs a dolly and hammer to straighten the flanges ,

use a spot weld drill bit and you dont need to hammer and dolly the flanges straight you can also get a spot weld chisel that is thin to go between the two skins once the welds have been drilled out

I've been panel beating for 20 years and I've never heard of anyone removing a spot weld like that. Can't see how it would be neater when you've got the risk of cutting the adjacent panel. With a spot weld drill bit you only drill the panel you're removing, you don't drill all the way through and you certainly don't use a normal drill bit.

whilst cutting the panel around the weld with the drill bit and then grinding off the old spot weld jim?

Sorry dude you misunderstood. Use an 8mm spot weld drill bit to drill the weld out. If you can't use a drill you can grind the spot weld instead

Carl the problem your faced with is that you would have 2 genuine capri wings with spot weld holes in them and a intact wing rail providing you have not drilled through.
What would u rather buy? A pair of wings with or without holes?
Depending on how your new panels are fitted it would be better to cut the wing rail off with wing.

The wings will have to have holes in, I'm sure there worth good money anyways as genuine ford aren't available anymore I don't think

they are what i use almost daily make sure you centre punch the spot weld and i usually put a pilot in with an 1/8th drill bit not all the way through but just a bit to make a better centre pop mark, they are slightly cheaper at machinemart and they usually have them in stock, you can always weld the holes back up in the wing and sand them flat for selling on

Whoever reuses the wings I doubt would spot weld them back on anyway, they would line up nicely in the existing spot weld positions and then puddle weld the hole to make it look like a spot weld and grind it flush, just as strong.
