Default Replacement Keys??

Ok, so I've got a 2008 Transit Connect with only one key... and I'd like to get hold of another key to keep safe just in case something was to happen to the original. What is the easiest and cheapest way of getting a duplicate made?? I assume it will need coded, but is that a dealer-only job??

Cheers,
Grant

Im sure a mobile auto lock smith can code a new key for you.
My Puma only has one key. I got another key cut through work. I was thinking about taking the chip out of my orginal key and attach it to the imobilizer ring then both keys will work ha ha.

A lot of key cutting places can read the code from your original key to program a new one. Try a Timpsons or somewhere like that.

I would also consider maybe making a trip to Ford and having them do it, get the original one re-programmed too, I wouldn't be too happy that a couple of other people have keys for your van!

Thanks for the replies. Didn't realise that the coding could be done outside the dealer network.

Local Ford Dealer: £198
Not-so-local Dealer: £177
Not-so-local Timpsons: £117

...that's for another 3-button remote key rather than just a blank key with transponder, which I might consider since it's a 'just in case' option.

Cheers,
Grant

THats rip off. Get a second hand remote key off egay, new key blank and batteries, get it recoded and key cut, then program the remote yourself.

Will look into this too, bit more hands on.. but if it's going to save me a nice chunk of cash, then I'd be well into that.

a typical market key stall round here will only want £35-40 for a recode of transponder and £5 to cut the new blank.
