Most distinctive ST colour so someone will know who owns it unless it was stolen before the collision happened.

sadly, any punshment will not befit the crime. they'll probably get off with 5 years if found guilty, out in 2 or 3. Cold comfort for the victim and their family

Sure I heard somewhere, if the vehicle was involved in a fatal accident like that, it was classed a catA and you couldn't get it back?

Once the police have released the car and it is no longer needed as evidence, it remains the owners property.
Obviously if the insurance has paid out, they will own it. However if a settlement has yet to be reached, then it is the original owners property - regardless of claims made by the insurer - until an agreement has been made. The entire ABI category system is a voluntary code of practice. Insurers cannot refuse a payout if you want to retain salvage - regardless of category.
