Default Cooling System Full Of Rusty Sludge

So I had to do some emergency maintenance on the KA yesterday.
The coolant froze solid, luckily it just damaged two core plugs and I got away fairly lightly.

I flushed the cooling system through 3 times with plain water before finally filling up with an antifreeze mix.
Every time I flushed the system through the water come out a dark orange rusty colour and the fresh antifreeze mix has gone much the same way.
The entire cooling system is covered in an orange rusty sludge.

Anyone know how to shift this sludge? Will it cause any long term damage?

If you've flushed it through and put new coolant in it i wouldn't worry about it. if it's the 1.3 hcs engine it will be from the iron block...

It's the later over head cam engine but still the same iron block.

I'll leave it be then.

You can get flushing fluid which will clean it up better than just plain water.

Washing powder (Persil etc ) and plain water, run it for a day then drain down and flush. No seriously.

To get the system clean, you may have to repeat the above a few times.

But not at this time of year when things are at risk of freezing.

Not actually tried this myself but have heard other people say it works a treat.

However if you have already flushed it through as much as you can personally I'd probably just refill it with antifreeze and leave it?
