I'm thinking of removing my 1.4 cvh carb out my mk2 orion and putting in a 1.6 cvh carb. I phoned a garage to get a quote on how much it'd set me back for them to do it for me. He said because the car is front wheel drive and the gear box will need removing, it'd be a big job costing approximately £250, he said if it had of been rear wheel drive, he'd charge me next to nothing to do it. I didn't realize they had to drop the gear box? is this correct? as far as I was aware I thought it would be a straight simple swap being that they're both carbs not injection etc..?

250 is sod all for a garage to do it. It's not hard at all to do though. The box can be unbolted and left in place when the engine is pulled.

Yeah. Do you know where there is any good detailed "How to" guides to do it yourself?

Just be careful and watch yourself with the big jump in power and torque across the rev range once the conversion is finished BriBri.
