So I want to convert my escort over to zetec, I want to run said zetec on carbs and megajolt and will be using an LSD Rs Turbo gearbox.
Options:
2.0 blacktop with fast road cams
St170 2.0 with locked cams
Which one should I go for? I'm not sure what development wil happen in future but for now it'll be on twin 40's in which I'll be rejetting and replacing the chokes anyway.

I think I would go for the st170 but instead of locking the cams you can now get a vvt controller.

If I'm honest I don't see the point, for the sake of what 10hp? and slightly improved drivability I don't see it as being worth the cost. Granted in the future I might be going over to itbs and at that point I would be running a standalone ECU but I want to stick with carbs for now.
Edit: that and I have a particularly poor opinion of Mtech, things may well have changed in the last couple of years since I took a sabbatical from the ford scene.
