Default escort td problem

does anyone know which relay controls the fuel pump solenoid in my dads 96 plate escort td?
the car starts and runs mint but wont turn off.
weve tested the solenoid which works when put direct to the battery.
weve tested for power at the solenoid and sometimes we get 12 volts and sometimes we get zero volts which has got me thinking a relay is playing up does anyone know which relay it is so i can try a replacement.

not relayed fella should be direct from ignition so you dont interrupt it black relay is normally the run relay [if you only have one wire on the stop solenoid] if you have two wires on the stop solenoid it is early pats and a pain in the ass [put a single wire direct from ignition to a single wire solenoid a nd do away with the pats ; the anti tamper shield on pats pumps is a pain in the ass cut it off and throw it away

yeah it has two wires on the solenoid, what happened wass my dad was coming home from work one night and the car lost all of its power,it was running rough and I had to tow him home, the following day it ran ok and for the next three days without problem.
the car starts great but wont turn off even undoing the multi plug to the pump does not change anything.
if you turn the ignition off the revs drop off slowly then it cuts out like its ran out of fuel, turn the ignition back on and revs return to normal and the car will rev normally just wont turn off.
any more advice???

As said above,
Tell them to just fit a single wire stop solenoid and run it to an ignition +
Done this plenty times in the with no probs, easier and cheaper than what the garage is suggesting
