Veyron at Vmax

Well it didn't win.
1. 9exx 996 Porsche..............212
2. RS Tuning Porsche GT2..... 208
3. Nissan Quashqui...............207
4. Ferrari Laferrari................207
5. Bugatti Veyron.................207
6. Lambo Aventadour............204
7 9e 28 997 Porsche............204
8. Ferrari F12...................... 200
9. Ford GT Mirage................ 199
10. Ford GT.......................... 198

Love the Quashqui on par with the Veyron. I fully expected the Ford Mirage GT to beat the Ford UK record however it was not close, but its only time im sure.

Jay, 19-10-2014 06:56 PM

And you would think the veyron would of been higher up if not top with a 1000bhp just shows you gearing + revs makes a big difference to and it only shows off properly at Ehra-Lessien

scoooby slayer 19-10-2014 07:28 PM

which Veyron was that 1000hp or 1200hp ?

what is the exact distance from the start to the measureing beam rod ?

lee2cossies 19-10-2014 07:43 PM

Wasn't u going to take on a veyron a few years ago for a challenge rod? If so looking at the speed you would have beat it.

From videos, they take a huge run up and then onto the straight

So they're starting the run from 100+ ?

Must be around 1.25 to 1.5 miles before they need to brake ?

Still...if the Veyron is a totally standard one...it aint too shabby for a standard production car, even if it is a massively expensive one !

there all awesome really mate for standard cars even the aventador at 204 mph is getting on with it :god:

the qashqai isn't just a top speed machine either it did the 1/4 mile in 9.9 seconds @ 144 mph, then 207 mph at brunters aswell, fair play

gjh 20-10-2014 12:53 PM

Still very respectable! I'm impressed with the Ferrari's pace to with both getting the double ton.

Dal_ 20-10-2014 02:29 PM

Much want for that mad Qashqai...

MannheimAlex 20-10-2014 05:45 PM

The Ferrari sounds amazing!

Fullflush 20-10-2014 07:48 PM

That porker looks a total weapon

botters 20-10-2014 07:52 PM

i presume thats the quashqai with the gtr floorpan and running gear and not just a family diesel runabout lol

gingeRS 20-10-2014 08:16 PM

wonder if the porker is still 4wd?

1300bhp!!!

NEIL A 20-10-2014 10:08 PM

The porsche is now rwd, the front diff is still in place to help the balance of the car but its disconnected. Will be interesting to see what that car will do once its running full power.

I was talking to Ken from 9e the other day and shocked at how many 200+ mph cars they are turning out.

jaiscossie 21-10-2014 10:02 AM

Nissan Quashqui wtf :cry::cry::cry:

gaz@cpp 21-10-2014 10:40 AM

The Veyron wouldn't engage top speed mode.... it would only run in handling mode.

Meaning ?

Mine runs in both modes all the time :D lol

The owner needed to read the hand book... Bugatti have written some software into the ECU meaning if the car isn't in the condition needed for a top speed run then the ECU will not allow it, on this occasion it was tyre related. Shows just how quick the Veyron is to match La Ferrari without all of its toys working.

DanW@FastFord 21-10-2014 12:32 PM

207mph for a car as heavy and as 'plush' as the Veyron is incredible. Some lovely cars in that line-up!

Does it? How much effect do they have at those speeds? I suppose the wing would be up which is a factor, but does it limit the engine in any way? What other changes are made to the car when it's in top speed trim? It's just drag reduction isn't it, so closing of some intakes and lowering the suspension a little? A shame it couldn't run in both modes, as it would be interesting to see the difference.

It did also get beaten by a Nissan Quashqui which, despite it's running gear, is probably pretty poor aerodynamically at those speeds.

lee2cossies 21-10-2014 12:44 PM

Imagine someone started modifying a veyron? There's probably a lot more power to be had out of them.

Veyron being 10 years old now vs the latest Ferrari I would say that's pretty good. The chaps from Bugatti were rather adamant in the distance being covered and the car in handling mode the spoiler alone would equate to 30+ MPH over that distance. Top speed mode does make a number of changes to the floor pan like closing brake cooling ducts so its a true flat floor, ride height will also change... but the biggest issue would be the spoiler which was lifting above roof height.

Weight when you're up there probably isnt a bad thing at all.

With the big run ups and long distance Vmax use, I cant see some extra weight being any disadvantage, if anything I'd probably prefer the comfier heavier car. It's bound to feel safer and more stable.

lee2cossies 21-10-2014 01:29 PM

Stevie, what would u expect your Granada to do at brunters?

I've no desire to hold my car flat out for that sort of distance. It would be mental and far too dangerous

At the minute though I'm sort of rpm/gearing limited to probably not much over 200mph.

I'll be fixing that over the winter for more rpm's

But IMO if it the car cannot achieve the top speed within a standing mile distance, I've no interest in trying further distances. I do however want to hit 200mph in 1km.

TOTB this year was a fuck up as gearbox wasnt playing ball and couldnt get gears which cost me quite around 150m of track even on the run with the decent speed it was 184mph, and could have been 190+

So I think if it hangs together, certainly close to 200mph over a standing 1km is doable.

I've little doubt it could carry on a reasonable bit over that speed, if I can get a good strong 3-400rpm more then 210-215mph overall is probably very realistic.
Even before at 202mph over the mile, it was still accelerating slowly despite being beyond peak power so power would have been falling

I wont be trying for higher speeds though.

lee2cossies 21-10-2014 02:24 PM

Madness! It would be good to see it at vmax and see all the supercar owners faces as u hit 200+. But I can see why u don't won't to try it due to the dangers.

stevieturbo 21-10-2014 02:36 PM

I could just see what the distance is they use, and tootle along for a bit so I know I'll be around 200+ at the finish marker.

Not really the same thing though lol

Rich guys like cars too. I'm sure they have a blast, and better than them sitting locked up in garages.

id have to agree with you on that one mate, I used to love the idea of brunters in a 500 hp cossie and trying to hit 180 mph, but with a car that will hit 150 mph in a 1/4 mile, a standing mile is plenty and still should be well over 200 mph. i guess the best way would be to run abit less boost at brunters to ease the strain a little of 40 seconds at wot

200 mph in the 1/4 mile now that would be an out of body experience I reckon lol

That's been done. Back in 2005 3 modded cars went against all the Supercars of the day. Joel ran a then UK record of 215.8mph in a Viper a shitty old Ford Cosworth came second with 206.08 & Nadine in the 2nd Viper came 4th. They were so shocked the event of the Toffs was never run again.
Shows how good those speeds were back then.

Remember AMG had a car there the latest 700bhp/700ft-lb engine in the previous body shape. Comment " We thought your old Ford was a joke but you blew us away as if we were standing still " . Great great days if only I could go back to being 59 .

I was there and it was a good day out, great eye candy if you like cars. As others have said, it was just rich boy's drag racing off the line and then a top speed end.

With regards to how fast they started the main approach - most tip toed round there, I'd say doing 50mph maybe less. Fastest/most committed guys could only have been doing 60mph or so. It's quite a tight corner with a lot of loose gravel and the owners were being understandably cautious.

It was standard Veryon by the way. Also the 911 Turbos and Nissan GTRs beat everything off the line; their launch control was clearly easier to use and worked perfectly every single time. Plenty of the McLarens and Ferraris often fluffed it on the line!

Some pics of the day for those that are interested:

The run up is NOT an advantage that's what the guys at Vmax do.
They hack down the back straight muddle around the bend & take forever to get straight. If you car has grip its probably an advantage to start from a stand still at Brunters you can be doing 80mph quicker than those guys hacking around the bend. Remember even if you did gain 50metres that's only .5sec longer on the throttle at the bottom for the 200+ boys.
If you are going to use the bend ( Mark did to save the clutch) this is the way to do it. Mark has done circa 70 runs there in various cars & has it off to perfection its not easy to judge it as well as the Master.

The Vid is the fastest the car ever was & probably ever will be it was over 950bhp on the 'push' gas system & that misfire turned out to be a cracked Block. 187mph well before the brow of the hill is rather crazy.

Anybody know what the guy who owns all the Ferraris does for a living? He must be seriously loaded. Also, what models are the Ferraris with the number plates 56 MAT and 57 MAT?

Fudgey 23-10-2014 02:40 PM

The grey one is a F12 Berlinetta
the other red one is a 458 Speciale

I wanted to know what he did for a living!

He wasn't an old guy, early 40s I'd say. He was taking passengers out all day and generally being very polite, down to earth and nice to everyone that asked about his cars.

He also owned the 599 parked behind the 458.

Rod I have to disagree I've been bruntingthorpe many times as I live in leicestershire and the run up around the bottom bend allways helps

I wouldn't mind a crack at this in my mk2 seen 180mph a few times on a private road of course I just be worried about stopping in time
