Does anyone have their garage alarmed?

If so what do you recommend? My new garage is almost finished and I need to sort an alarm.

Exactly...is it standalone ? phone line ? GSM ? fire/alarm etc ?

What sort of cover does it need ? I assume it has a permanent power supply ok ?

Whatever you do, I would say buy a wired in system

Batteries will just be a pain in the arse. And in a garage wiring should be easy, especially for only a couple of detectors.

I would also get a smoke/heat detector too ( heat if you will be doing grinding or similar work, as smoke's get set off too easily )
From a wiring point of view they're no different than a PIR anyway

Only awkward bit is most GSM type alarms seem to use battery powered detectors etc. Handy for install...but will require maintenance

A regular style wired house alarm will typically include a landline dialler, a GSM based dialer is usually an extra device.

I helped my cousin last week install a alarm on his garage as its best part of 300 metres from the main house but it has 240v, he opted to simply buy a 12v transformer as found in use for cb radios etc and a quality pager car alarm using extra functions on remote apart from usual arm/disarm to open close garage door and has 2 sirens, one being a air raid style one on the roof and by heck when its tripped we can hear it from the main house with windows closed and his phone is text to alert him of garage has a issue, just a idea as it works very well for him

If you have mains power at the garage just fit an alarm from a reputable company like Scantronic. The 9651 would do you, add to that a door contact, a dual tech and a external bell and your sorted. You would also need a spur obviously for the power.

What cars are going to be in your garage? I think its sad that we have to be so security aware these days because of low lifes looking to steal anything they can.

I know that if someone wants to steal something so badly they'll get it no matter what but we can all do things to make it as hard as possible, and imo spending £150 has got to be worth it if it makes me sleep a little better...
