Yeah i should elaborate more haha

Mk1 Focus ST or the MK2 Focus ST

Insurance isn't much difference believe it or not. £210 seems to be an average difference between insurers

thats pretty good. from what ive heard mk1 st can be pretty bad on fuel so i would be tempted to get mk2 and have the newer car and more power. should see 300 miles to tank depeneding on type of driving. mid 20-30 mpg mixed driving. hope this helps

Mk2 is supposedly not too good on fuel either.

Depends on budget. Quite a big difference now. St170s can be had for little cash unless you hold out for a well specced cared for effort.
I'd be after a mk2 st2 personally, at least if they're juicy you can have some performance to justify it. 170 isn't a disappointing car on a daily basis but the fuel cost doesn't stack up against performance.

Mk2 is certainly the better car, heavier but still handles very well. Not great on fuel, but you do have an extra cylinder to fuel. I run a T5 which is essentially the same lump and it's not exactly frugal.

Beware of modded examples, cylinder liners tend to crack when going for more power however it's not unknown for this to occur on standard cars.
