Hi everyone, is there anyone out there that knows about the MOT and what is required?
I have an old Escort mk6 and last year on the mot the guy said the load sencer on the back axle was not working. how he could tell I do not know unless he was to load the van up. As I do not know anything about these units I told him to sort it. When I got home I got under van to find that all the nuts and bolts on the unit were still locked in place and had not been undune at all. It looked like the guy at the mot station had just wire brushed the unite and the spring. Sprayed it with a bit of white powder and said it was then okey. What a scam... £50 that cost me took him ten minutes.
My escort van has been turned into a camper van and never carrys any load and indeed only one seat in the front. so is it possible to remove the unit from the axle for my next mot. Any help would be well appreiciated, Cheers Pete
Ps I always tip the mot inspector too.

the pivot point is prone to siezing but normally a spray with wd40 and moved backwards and forwards a few times frees it off then grease up . 50 quid seems a bit steep i normally do it when on test and put as a put right stright away or prs .

Yes it was a joke as they could not find anything else wrong with the van not even any to do for next year. but £50. god I could have done some miles with that at her 61 to the gallon. Wish i could take them of as I do not see how they could have tested the thing. Cheers, pete

As said, the pivot seizes, you are supposed to check if the arm moves freely.
£50 was a rip-off to free it off!!
I wouldn't publically post you 'tip' the MOT tester.. as VOSA don't take kindly to 'bribery'

In no way do I call my tip to the inspectors a bribe, no more so than when I use a taxi or go to the barbers. There are just certain people in life that one tips. My vehicles never need for me to bribe anyone as my vehicles are always up to gether and as I stated, on last years test it was trouble free not even any sujstions for next year. So as you can see I think I was well ripped off.. Cheers Pete
