Cool has anyone pulled out of a car spraying job + other bits

right, someone has my car who i was recommended by a few people. not really going into too much detail at the moment but im really not happy with some care / attention and other bits ive seen. its at the primer stage, time wise i was told 6-7 weeks, now its been 5 months.

ive told him im not happy and i want to pull the job. just sent a message asking to put the windows back in, doors, boot, bonnet back on and i will deal with all the other small bits then return it to me. ive paid him a initial 1st payment of course. i have another guy in mind who has done a couple of concour's winning cars but is a larger distance away.

just wondering has this happened to anyone else?

best regards enjoy the weather

I had mine done by someone that was meant to be great
They Wernt by far
They finished the car , doubled the price
So I dug my heals in got the price back down .
Got the car home notice loads of bits that Wernt right
( it was not a cheap job either )
So I gave them lots of chances to sort it
And was not being funny with them .
Still they didn't sort it and at one point tried to over ride the alarm .
At that point I thought sod it and got a solicitor involved
It nearly went to court then they have me back 90/95% of my cash .
Then I heard they were trying to get someone the steel my car
So it was put away for a while
This was 10 years ago

All I wanted was it done right not the money back

Got a lad to paint my cab years ago,did a great job but took ages,he painted bits on a cossie I had, sisters fiesta,my work van and my neighbours car no problems.
Put my next cossie in to get a few little bits touched up,he recommended both sides and since I was having a 4x4 bonnet fitted that was basically a full respray.
I decided on a colour change, all which he was more than happy to do,I didn't hold him to a price or timescale but called every month for updates.
Eventually I went down with a trailer and van and picked it all up,it went in a running car and left dusty, flat tyre,,being used as a coffee table and stripped.
Didn't pay a penny and never been back.
I use another guy now who does accident repairs and the odd respray,he's expensive and takes a while to get the car booked in as he's so busy but when he starts he concentrates on it and it leaves better than new.

I hate bodyshops with a passion.

Every one that I have used have taken the piss with time scales and when I eventually did get the car back, the work was just pure shit.

It's got to the point now where I'm considering buying another Cossie with mint bodywork and transferring all of my running gear into that instead of having mine painted again.

If I do decide to have mine done again, I'll send it up to Gaz in Durham as quite a few folk have recommended him and he seems well sound when I've spoken to him on the blower.

It's cheaper to buy a mint rolling shell than it is to have my car resprayed!

Exactly what I mean mate!

At least if I get another shell, I can make sure it's minty mint before I transfer all the bits over and I'm not without a car for months. Plus I can iron out all the niggly bits first before it gets swapped over!

this is the reason i have never got my focus done, its so alarming to see the way these places operate, and i understand jobs can take longer than expected but i see far more complaints about bodyshops than i do praising

in all honesty though, people do expect too much, a good paintjob takes time, and time costs money and materials are not free......

the number of people that think they will get their whole car painted and get a good job for Ł1000 as joe public just dont realise how much work is involved

For a full repaint inc primer materials alone will cost about that. Then theres time removing glass mouldings etc..

just to paint a bumper to a quality standard is around Ł200 if not more...

Problem is, insurance work is big money for a body shop, so the private work tends to get pushed to one side. Unless you have a written contract with the bodyshop with regards to time scales and monies to be paid etc then I wouldn't have thought there is a great deal you can do. I would expect to pay for the work that has been done so far, minus an agreed amount for the excessive piss taking.

Don't forget as well, a new body shop will probably want to start all the prep again, as 90% of a good paint job is in the prep work. I doubt they would want to paint on top of someone else's prep work, as it is their reputation on the line if it all goes tits up.

That's scanadalous! Take it to a higher authority or get a van and trailer to collect the car and put the panels in the back of the van.

I wouldn't be so sure about that! A lot of insurance companies want jobs done for nothing!
