Default Well, it's over......

Sad day today for me, just sold my Sapphire Cosworth. Feels strange, it's the first time in 15 years I have not owned an RS Cosworth of some description. Met some great people through them & made some very good friends, no doubt in the future I will own one again, but for the time being I am officially out of Cosworths

Give it a year and you'll be back, I sold my saff a couple of years back and missed it ever since and just ended up getting another cossie.

Shame you sold it.I know if i sold mine it would break my heart. It was bad enough a few years ago when Will Pedley drove my saff away to map it.

There bloody old bone shakers but there a piece of piss to work on and they are an iconic car.

That's not a bad thing to replace it with! I'll give it 2 years before you own your next cossie though.

Personally I would say so, in a car that quick you need the control a manual affords IMHO, however there are a lot of happy tiptronic owners around, but it's manual for me all the way

Automatic transmission has come a long way in the past 10 years or so, I just imagine the tiptronic on these being slow and jerky.

One of these is certainly on my horizons of potential next car purchase. Hope you enjoy it!!

Cheers Staffi, it is a great car, but a Cosworth is still a very special car, 3 door, saph or Escort, they hold a huge place in my heart & will always do so, without doubt one of the best series of cars ever made IMHO

A 996 turbo starts from 16-17k for an early year ropey cat c/d with plenty of miles to 40k plus for a nice "Turbo S" version with bigger turbos & ceramic brakes.

They are a bit muted as standard, but 420Bhp & 400+ lbs/ft. With an exhaust & remap will do 520/500+ for ever & a day. Great value for the performance on offer. Very impressed with it so far

I'd say 25k to be above the ropey end of the market

Engines are a pain to be honest, need ramps really to get under them, parts are not too bad if you shop around, biggest problem is being a twin turbo flat 6 there is two of everything

Apart from that they are quite sensible to run, obviously tyres are £££ as the rears are 295/35/18, but you don't trash them as fast as in a 2wd cos!

Do love a 996 turbo, but having driven one the interior let it down for me. Awesomely capable cars though and much better than a Cossie!

Thats why you buy a mechanically good one and make sure its serviced properly.

My boss has a porsche and despite all the slagging they get from car modifiers, as an out the box car you cant beat them.

They are awesome sports cars, yet practical enough to be a daily and comfy enough to cruise around on a longer journey.

And if looked after they go forever.

I thought they were gay until i went out in my bosses.

They are a great no hassle way to own a very fast and capable car. If i was a bit older, had responsibibilities and didnt want the hassle of modifying but still wanted a fast car then it would be a no brainer for me.

Hell if you get the modifying itch, you can go as mad as you can with cossies, it just costs a shit load more
