Default ST170 sticking accelerator pedal....

Im at a loss as to what to do with this.

If you give the car some stick, then after that when you try drive normal, or come off the pedal completely then go to press it, its solid, then all of a sudden itl lurch forward as it unsticks itself.

Throttle body is fine, clean, springs all fine and greased up so im not sure if its getting stuck inside the cable or what, either way im getting pretty tired of it, not going to have much engine mounts left soon !

On the one i had it did this, i rerouted the cable in the engine bay to give a more gentle curve, then use the adjuster near the bulkhead to make sure idle etc is o.k. and make sure you get full throttle. I had to adjust it a couple of times before mine was right but it worked, no more sticking.

There was a TSB about this and a vibrating pedal and they did a revised cable to cure it, so if the above does not work maybe yours is the original shorter cable.

When I had this it was just the butterfly sticking. Could feel it if you moved the butterfly spindle by hand. Easy way to check the cable is to disconnect it from the butterfly spindle and then press the pedal. If its free...... the cable is fine and its the butterfly. If the pedal is stiff...... its the cable.

I had this in the past and it was the butterfly that was covered in crap. Gave it a clean and all is well.
