Default G plate Mk2 XR2's how rare?

I put a thread up in the XR range but it is quiet in there , hopefully it'll be ok here too.

How many roughly do you think were made and still out there?

Im looking at a long term project and love xr2's and can get a rolling shell xr2 G reg with logbook but it will needs lots if not everything doing to get it nice, welding ,panels etc .

shocked at the value of these cars now and panel prices

worth a punt ?

Ive been there and done it with a xr2 , it will cost thousands to do it properly and will be worth a few grand at the end of it .

Yes they were rare on a G plate but t wont make it worth more .

I agree that G plates aren't worth any more money. There's a grey G plate Mk2 XR2 going round Essex with a ZVH turbo in it. Or at least there was.

'G' platers are rare so worth saving definitely, but as said - it isn't worth any more.

Preaching to the converted Glenn ! I agree, but equally most people will take a pragmatic approach and weigh up what it costs to do it versus what it's worth. If you do it for the love of it and are keeping the car then it make son odds, but most people don't look at it that way.

Suppose all mk2 xr2's are rare these days? Think I've only ever seen one other g plate mk2 and it wasn't an xr.

Can't imagine it would be worth alot more that any other year as like anything that old its the good ones only worth money irrelevant of what letter is on the number plate

It's for the love of the xr2 if that's your thing then go for it. I am currently doing one at the moment, it's my 4th xr2 and now the old age of 31 i just like the shape and attention you get what with mine being a 1985 C reg you don't see too many early one's anymore, these cars will most likely peak at a certain price but doesn't bother me.

The joys of being a squaddie back in the day, lads hard up near the end of the month I saved mine and just bought their cars, bought a light blue c or d plate for Ł20 once but I never got it started.
Mint cars back then but 10 a penny, went to the crusher if left too long, even a black 3 door went, so painful seeing the forklift through the doors.
Would love another even now, great cars.
White one looks really nice

Yes afraid so, we had parade squares where all our regimental stuff was carried out but also where we parked our cars.
Tours to Bosnia, Kosovo etc we would be away for 6 months plus, if the parade square was needed the cars would be moved one way or the other if parked in the wrong place, cars not registered and not in use went to the crusher, seen all sorts go including cossies but back then they were just sporty cars and hundreds knocking about.

Seen it at lyneham too, cars left in the compound and forgotten about. There was a Vauxhall nut who belonged to the car club, had a carlton gsi thing, cavalier caliber, gsi turbo cavaliers etc all crushed! Think the poor bloke went off the rails and left the raf never to be seen again, left all his motors behind.

i loved my xr2, far from standard in the end, but a cracking motor. loads of attention as it blended in with more standard looking ones till engine was started.

g reg ones aren't rare per say, just the ones not registered till later as people were after the xr2i at that point and were just left over models. if anything i'd prefer an earlier one as they have the extra age value dependant on condition.

i'd have another, probably just a standard xr2 next time though, it did become a bit of a money pit

And that's the problem as I said earlier - people will weigh up what it costs to restore versus what it's worth done. Would take a brave bloke to take on a load of projects knowing you'll lose money on each and every one.

The reason I've had to not go for it knowing im loosing is lack of funds.
Finding a really good one is going to cost.
They are fun to build though

I've just got a B plate car, 2 owners from new, specialised 1.9 cvh in Rosso red.
Has stacks of history even the original service book!.
It's in amazing condition really, couple of small 2p size rust patches, one on door shut one on the floor.
First owner removed the kit on delivery and sealed it etc.
Not sure weather to keep it yet, didn't intend on buying it but when I saw the car I loved how basic it was, proper retro!

Just purchased some new spots for it and pin stripes as the old ones are really faded! Other than that it just needs a really good polish/ wax as it's been sat out for a while.
The prior owner had his own garage so put new brake hoses on and a ford cam belt to make sure it was all good to drive and a new mot.
Seems really weird having a manual choke!, I'm 30 but even my first car, a 1.3sr nova had an auto choke.

2.5-3k seems to be where the good ones are.
Main problem seems to be rust every where and previous bodge repairs.
Prices do seem to be slowly increasing for them, guess the same as the rs range etc

Quick Reply: G plate Mk2 XR2's how rare?
