Default T5 clutch problem - not releasing.

Bit of a strange one. Got the engine and box in the new saph, got it running last weekend, but I the clutch wouldn't release meaning I couldn't select gears when it was running.
I have changed to hydraulic clutch but that seems to be working perfectly. The arm moves pretty much as far as it possibly can do, and its not over extending and re engaging the friction plate either.

I think, it's either I have done something stupid like fitted the friction plate back to front, but i dont think this is possible? or its because in my rush to get the engine in, I didnt grease the input shaft and now the plate is jamming on the shaft?

Pulled the box back off the engine tonight, ive not dropped it out yet as I dont really want to remove the exhaust coz its a pain in the arse to fit and ive just got it perfect

How does this look to you guys?

So should I grease the input shaft and put it back together or completely remove the box and pull the cover plate off?.

I`d whip plate out, check if that was fitted correctly , wrong way is possible
wire brush input shaft, little wd,
then wipe dry, very small amount of copper grease, get friction plate gliding on input,,
wipe any excess grease before fitting
then check plate is fitted as it should be flywheel side to flywheel,
make sure your thrust bearing is gliding on the tube freely too, little normal grease ok
chuck box in , put some bolts on bellhousing and the starter in and test, should be fine ,
least you won`t be guessing what it is, you will have removed a lot of "what ifs"
chances are,, it`ll be fixed
