What is this connector for? Orion / Escort mk4 efi

Hi all. Found a connector at the back of the engine bay in my 1989 orion efi. Any idea what it is? Trying to work out if it's anything to do with the smell of petrol in the cabin?

The MFI also has that connector, 3i and turbo, don't know what its for though as all the cars I've had its never been connected!

It could be for the trip computer.

The bit that goes on on the end of the speedo cable plugs into one very similar to that I think.

Not 100% on that though
