Default BMW E46 bulb changing= pain in the backside!

Anyone share my thoughts? Spent probably an hour altogether trying to get the damn bulb holder locked back into place, removing the holder and installing the bulb was a piece of piss, but inserting it back in and lining up the tabs with next to no room was a nightmare, got big hands aswell so I could only use one hand and even then it was a squeeze

Never had so much trouble changing a light bulb, I don't have any patience so that certainly didn't help. Got there in the end though.

Anyone else tried changing one?

Easy. Take the head lamp out. Three 8mm bolts and it falls out

Yeah you can but then there's like 3/4 screws and bolts to undo, one of which you'd need an extension on the socket which I don't have, secondly the trim piece under the light would also have to pop out before you can even move the headlight, can't be arsed with all that just to change a bulb!

Cossie891, good glad I'm not the only one. Lol

Hmmm is it THAT easy. May try that next time.

Oh and just to add, I was at my local garage yesterday having a new tyre fitted, the mechanic had a look at the bulb holder, after a few mins he just said "I don't know then" and walked off (a proper mechanic not a tyre fitter)

It's a lot more difficult trying to put the bulb holder in if you have the bulb upside down, the tabs on the holder should be the other way round, the ones near to each other where you think the bulbs square locator thingy should fit..don't!

On mine, some numpty had put both bulbs in upside down lol!

Beam pattern was a wonky cross on the road..

Spot on mate, I also found that out myself, the beam pattern looked wank and like a zig zag on the road almost but I put that down to the fact that I didn't locate the bulb holder properly(which I have now), but then also found out what you said above, so I took them back out and sure enough they were upside down there's two bits of plastic close together which you'd think the metal tab sits in there nice and snug but NO, it goes between the other wider bits of plastic lol.

Oh well got there in the end
