Default Can you braze on an alloy radiator

I want to modify my car radiator abit and wanted to no if I can braze alloy.My whole radiator is alloy but I think its been tig welded.

Your rad would have been tig welded. I don't think you can braze aluminium, I might be wrong.

I googled not long after and it says you can lol.Tig welding is an art I just wanted something modifying

yes you can. i used to braze aluminium air con pipes. it's difficult though as they are not hot enough and then suddenly they just disappear

What sort of temp would I need to melt the stick rod.Am I best off getting fluxed or pre-fluxed

I'd just take it to someone and get them to tig it. Yearn fabrication in Oldham would do it for you. Geoff is a great guy and is fantastic at tig welding aluminium.www.yearnfabs.co.uk

i would also have it tig welded as brazing is really difficult especially on a radiator that quickly dissipates the heat. much finer control with tig.

Yes you can braze it.

but there are also products like Lumoweld, Alumaweld or whatever it's called that are designed for aluminium

ie this sort of thing.

I like fluxed brazing rods but brazing is hard if you haven't done it before don't attempt it on your rad lol. It's a juggling act between getting the metal hot enough with out melting it and heat rod just to the point of melting so it all flows togther with out melting!
Ive Brazed copper pipe to steel pipe before so it's all do able
