Default 2 kids "playing chicken" killed on railway at darl

http://www.itv.com/news/index_1030911.html is the article, but i'll copy it onto here aswell.

Train death boys were 'playing chicken'
10.13AM, Sat Mar 26 2005

Police are investigating claims that two teenage boys killed by a train were in a group playing "chicken".

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said two people died when they were struck by a Manchester to Newcastle Trans-Pennine train at 8.45pm yesterday.

Another spokesman confirmed that the two boys were "local youths aged 15 years or thereabouts". The boys' families had been informed of their deaths.

The accident, near Darlington, forced the closure of the East Coast Main Line for an hour and a half while the bodies were recovered, the spokeswoman added.

She said: "A Trans Pennine Manchester to Newcastle train struck and killed two persons just north of a five-arched bridge at Darlington.

"British Transport Police and Durham Police are investigating the incident, which is not being regarded as suspicious.

"The East Coast Main Line was closed immediately but the line is now working again."

Network Rail spokesman Keith Lumley said: "The allegation is that they were playing chicken in front of the trains - that is running across in front of them. Tragically two of them didn't make it."

Mr Lumley added that the two youths were in a larger group playing at the track side.

He said the accident completely closed the East Coast Main Line.

"Everything ground to a halt," he added. "It is now back up and running."

It's mindless stupidity from foolish wankers like this that fucks me right off - god knows what the poor bastard driver and guard are going thru right now - their heads will be completely in bits, and for the driver, that could well be the end of his career

Rhys - i agree they deserved it purely for been there - they knew the danger, and took the risk, and payed the ultemate price. i see it from traincrew point of view tho - not pleasant, i personally have no sympathy for them

jesus personally i think you's are being a bit harsh, fook me they were 15, did you not do anything stupid and dangerous when you were that age??? if you crashed your car doing 120mph and died would you expect everyone to say your a fookin wanker for goin that fast and you deserved it??? 15 year olds do stupid things, fookin ell i know i did , you grow up and learn the errors of your ways. at the end of the day it was a group of mates and yes they were being stupid beyond belief but i dont think for a minute they particularly wanted to die or wanted to stress the driver , imo the poor fucka's paid a high price for being normal 15 yr olds doing the sort of daft shit that you do when your tryin to impress ya mates etc. if things had been different when i was that age and i wasnt so lucky a lot of the time i wouldnt be here now, i realise stuff i did then was stupid but it made sense at the time, its called being a teenager

no sympathy - trespassers on the line make my blood boil.

i knew at 15 not to fuck about on a trainline, and i'm sure they did aswell, but then again, if they knew better and had any amount of common sence, then they would not of climbed over a 6 foot steel spiked fence to get onto the line in the first place

nah mate i disagree, kids do stupid fukin things at that age and older , did you never do real stupid stuff? fuk me it may just be me but off the top of me head at that age i remember doing shit like bridge jumping, building jumping, throwing knifes at each other, shooting fireworks at each other , shooting each other with air rifles, swimming rivers, building massive and i mean MASSIVE rope swing that went over the valley, which snapped on one of my mates and fractured his skull he recovered though, the list goes on and on but any of those things could of resulted in serious injury or death, at the time it was justa laugh and i dont think i deserved to die by doing daft shit like that, must just be me

aint no 6ft steel fence along the railway up ere ,

so to ask the question again , if one of us died doing silly speeds would you be as quick to call the person a tosser /wanker and say they deserved it the stupid bastad for goin that fast???? like fuk would ya, it would be all , ooh nightmare, thoughts to family etc etc and all that shite, cant see the difference in circumstances to be honest, when your doing 150mph down the a1 you ARE playing chicken with life , anything could go wrong and you could lose your life in the blink of an eye, the issue i have isnt wether they were right or not coz obviously they werent i just think the reaction you lot have is ridiculous considering there age.

at 15 you played with toy cars

i played football too but loads of other exciting stuff, find it hard to understand that we all have fast cars and like tracking em and driving fast as fook, in a word we are thrill seekers, but you are crucifying these lads for having the same sort of mentality. just so happens these kids wernt old enough or clever enough to be thrill seekers with something a little less dangerous.

personally speaking i tend not to do daft speeds, to behonest i think im getting old cos i very rarely speed these days

bit of a difference though, if your doin 150mph you dont go and sit int eh back and wait for it to happen, you have some control over what happens,

if u jump infront of a train you cant expect it to swerve,

yeah right you have control over fook all if it goes wrong at 150mph, you obviously aint been that fast otherwise you would know how daft that statement really is. you say you dont speed these days inferring that you used to yeah? well if you'd died when you were speeding by the mentality above you would have deserved it and you were a wanker etc etc for doing it ridiculous.

Bunch of lad's were doing that last summer not far from here but they were walking out in front of cars on a busy road...

..only lasted 2 days before one of them ended up through a windscreen!

Only felt sorry for the poor lass that was driving the car.

yes we all speed, but as said before theres a difference between doin 40 in a 30 and jumping infront of 40tonnes of 100mph metal (guesses)

no i havent done 150, not experienced much over 100 to be honest, i dont see the point anyway, especially seens as its an instant ban if you get caught.

if i jumped infront of a train, id expect it to kill me, i wouldnt be expecting to die drivin down the road a little fast. obviously if i was doin stupid speeds then the chances are increased, all depends what sort of scale we are talkin on

well seeing as most on here ( including myself) talk about racing this that and the other going well over the ton thats obviously the scale im talkin about, nobody mentioned 40 in a 30. you lot obviously had very sheltered childhoods or are boring fookas or are way too old to remember being that age and have morphed into that old bloke who used to live at the end of your street who used to tell you to 'GO PLAY AT YOUR OWN DOOR!' if it had been somebodys kid from here you lot would have been saying kids will be kids mate , feel for your family etc etc , false false false!

little buggers grrrrrr

ill still stick to my guns, not really had a sheltered child hood, i just like to live safe etc, id be distraught if i crashed my car, so the slower i drive the less chance of it happening.

probably change when i get more than 200bhp though

I did some fukced up stuff when I was a kid, and got into trouble a little, but not for one minute was I ever stupid enough to think playing chicken with a train was a "fun" way to get my kicks!

If the kids were 8, I'd say irresponsible parenting, but as they're old enough to know better, then I'd agree with Graceland.

15 maybe, but fookin selfish.

Exactley as PON said. I mean ok you do silly stuff but come on at 15 i cant even think of the logic of playing chicken. I would like to think myself as a kid who had some brain cells and thought hmmmm i think i know whos going to come of worse at chicken with a train

Yeah i done silly stuff like fire works and all that crap but i think there is a line. And this one goes way over it

how can they be selfish??? niave , stupid, immature..... yes! but saying they are selfish sounds like they killed themselves and wernt bothered who was driving ,and who got hurt, they obviously didnt mean that to happen did they?

once again i am not saying that they were right, they werent , i'm just shocked that everyone says they deserved it and dont seem to accept that they all did things that could have resulted in death when they were younger, doesnt have to be train dodging, could be anything that was obviuously stupid and dangerous

to be honest ithink you lot have probably forgotten just how daft you's were at 15, go away and really really think about when you were that age and try to remember exactly the things you did.

They got what they deserved these mindless clowns

Pound to a penny, they will be the scrotes who put concrete blocks on the rails and throw bricks at the trains as they pass. Maybe throw car batteries off motorway bridges??

This country is going down hill fast, the more of these scrotes that get removed form this world by acts of their own stupidity the better

I feel sorry for the Train Driver and people who have to clean up the mess made by there sorry asses.

Maybe a shame they didnt survive but lost all there limbs?? Maybe thats harsh???

But maybe its not

I know what i done and playing chicken with a train wasnt one of them, I think some people just have a death wish.

I have done some daft things like many a 15yr old, But as said above i think their is a line that even at that age you know its going a bit too far! And to be honest the above is one. If they was just crosing the track and got killed, yes unfortunate accident! but playing Chicken?

God it amazes me, total tragedy, but HELLO? What moron plays chicken with a 200tonne train moving at 120mph When I was 15 I was caining my cycle round the local park, jumping it off of the humps and stuff.

But I grew up in the 90's when public information was huge. Remember all them TV ads they used to put up. Lessons in class where they made you watch videos of people playing with power lines and trains, days away to organized events*. And apart from that I had parents that used to say to me, dont do this, dont to that, because...

Sometimes I think kids just arn't being taught the basics of common sence

* Things like where they took you onto a double decker, didn't tell you what for and had a random bag on it. Friend of mine picked it up and all the instructor said was, "congratulations, you have just picked up a bomb and killed everone on the bus."

AAAAAAAAARGHH i'm not saying that i think it was right , its possibly THE most stupid thing ive heard, and as daft as i am i never contemplated anything as daft as that. my point is we all do stupid things at that age , many of the stupid things we did could have resulted in death with hindsight, as they say hindsight is a wonderfull thing.

james , thats possibly THE most stupid reply ive read on this board, nice well informed reasonable answer, they wernt throwing bricks. battery or anything like that, it was a bunch of mates sitting chilling out and a few of them starting playing silly bastads by running across trainlines, simple as that, 2 of them were pbliterated by the train hitting them, yeah i really think given those circumstances and the fact they were trying to impress a bird they fancyed or summit that they got what they deserved , your answer is absolutely fookin immature mindless crap

Friend of mine picked it up and all the instructor said was, "congratulations, you have just picked up a bomb and killed everone on the bus."
another sensible reply you probably have a very good point there mate, but obviously its not the system failing our kids etc and putting more effort into fuckin illegal immigrants etc etc etc

Quick Reply: 2 kids "playing chicken" killed on railway at darl
