Anyone ever sold a car only for it to be written off?
Friend of mine I spoke to earlier sold his this weekend (remapped golf GTi turbo) to some young lad, that was on the Saturday night, hes had a visit from the police tonight as the lad that had it has wrote it off and hes in intensive care.... pretty messed up, anyone else had the same experience?
I sold a car a few year ago and then had police on my doorstep at bang on 6am tried cuffing me up, car id sold a week earlier had been used in an armed robbery and theyd crashed it and done a runner, was still in my name lol

PassionFord Post Whore!!
My father in law had a mk1 Escort, which he'd spent years making it nice, it was his pride and joy, but had to sell eventually. A girl bought it off him, she'd not been driving long. About a mile after buying it off him, pulled out infront of a car and wrote it off. My father in law saw the wreckage on the way to paying the money in the bank... :-(

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
This post instantly reminded me of Rob Martin (elm-us) who was a member her and on fiestaturbo who bought a zetec turbo fiesta from another forum member in 2004 and tragically crashed and died in front of his farther while taking the car home. I think some people just get caught up in the excitement of buying a new car and want to test the cars limits.

This wasn't up in Scotland by any chance was it. Was a guy hit a tree just a few miles from me at the weekend in a golf and is seriously ill in hospital.
Back on topic tho,I bought a sunburst red fiesta super sport back in 1994 or 5 iirc off an old bit who had it garaged for a few years for Ł300. I owner fsh needing tlc for a mot. Cost pennies to mot as me and a mate did all the work and got the bits trade. Ran it for a week and sold it to my g/f at the times neighbour a week or so ltr for Ł1200 and he proceeded to roll it down an embankment 2 days ltr. Was totally gutted for him and the car :-(

I remember that horrible looking carlton lol.
I sold my first car I had to a young lad. Then a few weeks later I seen it on a back of a recovery truck with the front end stoved in.

That was the guy who crashed outside my parents house, was up the other end of the yard, didn't here the crash and walked down to see his father walking around the front of the house. Went down and saw the car on its roof up against the tree. belive from the police report he'd gone to over take his father and when he pulled in clipped the kurb lost control and went over. Stopped pretty quick in the fence and tree which wouldnt help. Must be really hard for his father, watching it all and he kept repeating the worst. Was a day before Fiesta in the park if i remember. Tony Martin (guy who shot the pikeys) was his uncle and still pops down every so often.

My ex gf sold her saxo vts 2-3 days later the police were round asking her all sorts of questions what she had done to it maintenance wise etc turns out the lad had crashed it and tragically died and the parents were blaming my ex for selling a dodgy car but the car was checked by the police and all was fine it was the lads fault he overtook on a blind bend showing off to his cousin and went head on into a van luckily the passenger survived which given the state of the car he is v lucky

My mate sold a modded SJ, guy A-framed it away. An hour away a strap came undone on the a-frame he lost control and rolled both the SJ and tow car on the motorway. Not much left of the SJ and wrote off the tow car, guy was lucky to walk away with cuts and bruises.

I remember that elm_us guy, incident, awful that was, and must have been awful to witness, the only consolation you can find in that is knowing he died doing something he loved doing, thats how id rather go if anything as long as i didnt take anyone else out with me. It was up north somewhere this golf crash could have been that one. I make sure any new car buyer now signs a receipt with their name, address and phone number on and never give someone the whole logbook and trust them to post it off.
