Default Are XR4i's still loved or even liked? lol

I've been offered an xr4i which has been dry stored for the last 13 years, still runs etc and has lots of history. The only issue are the rear wheel arches need tidying up a bit but it's not a major job. I didn't know whether to buy it for a project or not. Do these cars still have a decent following?

Xr4i s are still cool in my book maybe doesn't get the same recognition as a cossie but is defiantly more rarer now. If its cheap enough get it bought.

buy it.had mine for 7 months now. can't wait for the better weather to enjoy driving it more. only one down side, as the xr4 shares many parts with the 3 door rs 500s parts prices sometimes command a premium.

I loved my xr4i. Was mildly tuned and was about 170-180 bhp. Sounds strange but I still miss that now even though I have got a 450bhp 4x4cossie fiesta.

In my day they were the dogs nads

Going from Cortinas, escorts the only highish powered rwd was the Capri. The 4i came along is miles better imo and I agree with Fiddy the older they have got the cooler they are.

My Aunti and Uncle had an XR4x4i years ago and I always loved them since then!
The 3 door is even better!
Dare I say it? I prefer one to a Cosworth any day!

Not intended as an arsey question mate but if it looked like a 4i would you still like the look of it? By the way, I like 4i's so the question's not intended as a dig at them either.

Trouble is with Any XR3/4/6/8 they were over shaddowed by the RS model which is a pity

take the moonstone 4i above as another example, As Staffi says, it has look at me overshaddowing RS bits on it

which is magic if you like them, i have had numberous XR3i`s with RS1600i kits and stickers on them, so i am also a hypocrit

I have an XR4i and I love it, but it only has 6 standard components on it.

And I love those Azevs - wish I could find/afford a set!

Same here I love them, their a great car for the money still. I have 2, ones got a 24v and can honestly say its been much more fun than my Cossie purely because its bomb proof and costs peanuts to fix!

I haven't got the rs side arches and skirts on and left the 3 windows so side view it looks nothing like a Cossie and from the back it looks like a standard 4i. Only cause the 4i front bumper and grill are boring compared to a Cossie

The other big thing is how much they cost to buy. I would love to replace my old cosworth again but the 4i are a more realistic car for people with not much spare cash. 3k for good one instead of 10-15k for a cosworth, also 4is are so easy to work one, I maintain mine my self but with my old cosworth had to pay a mechanic to do it. Every time I hammered my cosworth I was worried about a massive repair bill, but the cologne seem buillet proof

The problem with the xr4 is the 3dr cosworth, thats why most XR4 owners always fit cossie bits to them

That is true to a large extent - I had a black 4i on a B-reg ( albeit with a Cosworth bonnet and grill but XR4i badging, biplane spoiler and 4i bumpers ) and most people thought it was a Cosworth. I did enjoy it to drive, especially after the big brakes, 3-door Cosworth front end suspension etc and XR4x4 rear end ( discs and 7" LSD ).
Had Janspeeds on and after a bit of fuel injection tweaking, new injectors etc it put out 163bhp ( up from under 140 bhp when I got it ). Was faster than my friend's E30 325 Sport once past 50 ( which used to upset him a lot )

I think you missed the point of my question mate. What I was asking was do you like it because it looks like something else (in the original picture) or would you like it anyway as an XR4i?

Personally would swap the seats though as they don't hug you very well. Get it bought if its the right money mate

Both the 4i and XR4x4 are 12v, all 4is are 2.8 along with the early XR4x4s whilst the later 4x4s are 2.9.

The XR4i is special due to its unique bodyshell,.

I quite like the XR4i rear windows. I know they get a lot of bad feedback.

Were the early XR4x4's injection or carb'd?

Quick Reply: Are XR4i's still loved or even liked? lol
