Default Cat D value

What % difference in price (roughly) would a repaired cat D car be if it was compared with an equivalent car that isn't a cat D?

Depends on how well it's been repaired tbh...
And the car, ie mileage, condition etc...
My 2002 cat c focus estate I purchase a few years back had just over 20k on it from new, ok it wanted a few bolt on panels...
But what other 2002 cars are about with that mileage for under £500 quid?
For my budget I was looking at old rust buckets...
Ok I spent alittle on it, ie paint, panels... Then the modding started...
But I got my money back when I sold it 12 months on, the car sold itself...

I actually cannot for the life of me understand, for example how say a Cat C well repaired car, can be worth far less than say a clean rotten bitsa everything, welded and painted up piece of shite "restored" car is!

It's the " well repaired" part that's the issue.... I've no problem with cat d or cat c vehicles , I've had a few now but I've always seen the damage to them and bought them knowing whats been done.......

About 25% less for a cat D, touch more on cat c as generally regarded as having being more damaged.

Some will say it makes no difference but that is rubbish, you can be sure given the choice between an unrecorded or recorded car at the same price, people will pick the unrecorded.

It's also down to the repair, if it is well done then it will retain more value than a poor job which will see people running for the hills.

So even if a car is well repaired, it is still socially uncool to have it, because its a category registered car. But yet its socially cool to have a restored heap of crap, probably because of its "tax book"???

Chuckable mentality!!

I don't think it comes down to what is socially acceptable and what isn't, it's about two cars of the same model/age/condition/miles being compared back to back price wise with one being not on the hit list and one being on it. The one on the hit list WILL be harder to sell and so is cheaper to entice it over an unregistered car.

Daft thing is that both could have been bumped in their time but one was written off and one not, but the recorded tag means it is less desirable and you know for sure and you can never be 100% about what was done to sort it and how well unless you saw it being done.

This was my last Saff & this was cat D... Had panel damage up the side shown, the car was beyond clean, very, very original.

Sold it for £5k but had it not been on the register I'd say it would have been more £6-6.5k.
