Default People carrying on driving with dangerous faults.

No pics, but had an 08 plate Galaxy in the garage today 'been making a funny noise' since the driver ran over something on the motorway...

That'll be your OSF brake disc snapped in half then sir... (all the vents have snapped!)

Anyone have any similar stories?

Some folk have no scruples.

Saw this come off someone's car a few years back and must have been like that for a while as the brakes hadn't felt right for a while :-( :-( :-(

Customer came in after a drive down from Aberdeen and said they had a grinding noise coming from the back of there 206?

Oh that'll be because the pads had fallen out of the inside and the grinding was your piston pushing against the disc? Customer looked puzzled.....

When did you hear the noise? About an hour after we left?????

WTF are you Insane

i had a woman at work a few years ago, nearly killed herself when a front brake piston came out of the caliper. she had been driving around for weeks with them grinding the outer pad was completly gone and the caliper was rubbing on the disk outer face.
some people out there shouldn't be allowed to have car.

i also get a trade magazine called matters of testing from vosa, and there is a section in there called horror stories where mot stations send in pictures of car that have been presented for mot with some right dangerous problems.

When they were building the A17 bypass about 20 odd years ago, where I worked looked after the vans from the construction company.

They'd been driving a Transit with the pads fallen out and piston grinding the disc, only bought it in when the piston popped out and they lost the brake fluid.

http://jalopnik.com/5106002/jeep-run...-to-drivetrain

The amalgamation of cord and wires that used to be a mattress wound itself around the driveshaft and rear axle, creating a deadly whip that gashed it's way through the gas tank. The draining of his precious fuel, not the terrible shaking, is what ultimately brought the owner into the dealer. We would've loved to be part of the laugh-fest that surely took place at said dealer after this mess rolled in.

My lad told me about a 6 month old E63 Merc that the owner bought back into the dealership saying that the car was making a funny 'ticking' noise.
He got it up on the ramp and found the 'ticking' noise was the metal cords from the worn front tyres catching against the suspension leg as the wheel rotated
What had he been doing to wear the front tyres to that point in 6 months from new??

I scare customers big time at work and not to sponge money out of them, it to make them see sense, I get it all the time if the have a puncture near the side wall, "oh but it's a new tyre" does my face look bothered I ain't repairing it, if you cherish your family get another tyre simple. And it goes for all components so many people cut corners to save a few pennies

My Fathers F30 wears the outside of the front tyres at an alarming rate!
BMW showed us 3 others that they had in and they were all the same! Apparently it's 'normal'.

Not a major issue as it drives fine!
The issue is the lease company. They won't replace the tyre until there is cords showing because there is still 5mm left of tread!

So the only time we get new front tyres is when it's worn down to the cords.

Yeah exactly. I had a pug 307 hdi estate that I bought for the gf last yr but she didn't like it cause it was too big but I ran that must have been about 1000 miles with the back brakes metal on metal cause I didn't have the right tool to wind back the piston. Ended up scrapping it and still got the pads and discs for it :-(

Serviced a Laguna around 2 years ago - two snapped springs on the front - two rear calipers pissing out brake fluid - baldy tyres ,

Obviously the guy had to sign a disclaimer to take the car away as he didn't want anything done quoting "yeah I know about it"

There was two baby seats in the back worringly.

You see it a lot driving round, cars with no brake lights except the one in the rear window.

Ive walked past Asda a few times and seen cars with front wheels parked on full lock, bald tyres,, with bulges in and with cords exposed.

My sister drove round for 8 months with no MOT or tax, didnt even realise it had expired.

My passat the rear beam bushes are banging like mad,one of the front rollbar links has snapped sorting it this weekend hopefully, also got a ABS sensor gone so no ABS or traction control. Joyful.
