Default Difference between MT75 (red) and MVMTF 75-90 (honey) gear oil?

Afternoon Gents,

I wonder if anyone knows.

I've got a 1999 Focus TDDI with an MTX75 gearbox.

I've just popped a driveshaft out to swap it for a new one and need to top up the oil in the box once I've finished.

Here lies the question.

The oil currently dripping out is a honey coloured oil and having looked it up on the Comma site it is referenced as MVMTF 75-90 gear oil and is fully synthetic.

Fair enough.

I've got three litres of MT75 oil sitting on a shelf in my garage which is RED in colour. It is described as a mineral oil.

The specifications of the two oils seem similar viscosity wise but their chemical makeup is obviously different.

MVMTF
Phosphorus 0.13%
Zinc 0.12%

MT75
Phosphorus 0.09%

Now having researched that I'm going to get some of the proper and not use the old red juice.

But I was wondering what you use in your older MT75's? Have you upgraded to the newer higher spec oil or do you use the old red stuff? Would effect the syncro cone operation / life etc?

Was the old Red used at the time (1980's) when the MT75 was being put in new cars as it was a better oil than the standard gear oils.

And the old red, is it ATF oil in a different bottle, that is what I've always believed.

Just interested.

The older mt75 box needed special not off the shelf oil in it to work properly
Ford then changed the numbers and then all if a sudden every engine and gearbox were listed as having the sane oil requirements, 5w/30 for the engine and whatever for the gearboxes
