Red face Please help.

Hi everyone.im a newbie here, posting on behalf of my fella.we have a ford escort diesel van.having issues.we bought it and seems fuel pump needs replacing.had this done.used pump.mechanic says needs coding.its an old w reg.so didnt think it would.
But quite costly to get done.im told can either bypass the imobilizer or disconnect it.this would solve the issue.can anyone confirm this.
