Question Z20LET People enlighten me. Astra van

Hello,

So my brother flipped his van 2 weeks ago and is thinking of getting a astra van with a Z20LET in it, what are these like? Been told its running around 300bhp.

Going to look at it tomorrow, whats there to look for?

Been told the gearbox is started to crunch in 3rd, are these easy to replace?

Cheers.

Gearboxes are dog shite, so if its crunching its probily about to give up,
The engines are good for about 300-350 before you need to start thinking about changing internals,

Look out for the general smoke issues, managment light as these suffer with ghost codes (ecu fault), oil pressure switch

Cheers for the reply.

He said it only does it when changing down not up, not heard of this before.

I think it will need replacing anyway but is this a major job?

Nah not a big job, vauxhall gearboxes are always clunky, which is why they don't last

I was going to suggest a slower one, not a 300hp thing too

zlet is a good engine , but piston and conrods are shit , 320bhp is as far as i would go , use z20leh pistons with steel rods is good for over 450, gear box crunch on the down change is common when they had a good arse kicking , cheaper to replace the box , turbo at any more than 20 psi will last less than 6 months lol
