Default Timing out??

Automatic tensioner unit snapped , had it replaced n now the car seems too have no guts in it, it is a little jumpy on throttle, is it possible the cam belt has jumped a tooth causing her to run like this?

Does this follow on from your thread asking about a cam belt swap on a Celica GT4?

What car is it ? Did you not check the timing again before you started it ?

His excuse was the tensioner must off pulled the belt round n knock it out as it was slack by an inch!
He said the top 2 looked inline, but as it wa dark he didn't 100% check as they was lined prior to the tensioner going!

Oh that's not good mate. Lets just hope it didn't rattle the valves when the tensioner went otherwise someone is in trouble. Not having a dig but whenever i do timing belts (and that's alot ) i always change it as a kit to rule out this problem.

Did it go right before you had the belt done? - YES

Does it go right since you had the belt done? - NO

I'm no Einstein but I think I can see the problem.

I would say the timing is out but once you strip it again make sure 100% its right and before you even start it turn the engine by hand at least a full cycle then line everything back up to make sure its still 100% right. If it all lines up then give that a run up the road to see if its ok

Of it's running ok on idle maybe just a tooth out? Sounds poorly fitted.

to be perfectly honest its very poor workmanship if he's changed the tensioner because its collapsed and never bothered to check the timing because "they was lined up prior to the tensioner going", yeah the belt was also tight before it went as well
if its idling ok and running on 4 its prob not bent any valves, but just jumped a tooth
but bad work either way, i wouldn't realy recommend getting any more work done there

Just been out in her for he last 2 hours n dam she is a weapon

I'm well pleased she finally fixed!

Result was 2 teeth out by timing , lucky it isn't done any damage to the engine,
Slight bit of vibration every now an again from rear diff hanger as the rubbers r a little worn .

Could do with a nice set up but ill get that done after new mani , front mount n exhaust arrives
