Default Brake Disc Considerations

Just wondering,

When looking for brake discs, what do you look for in a set?

Make?
Drilled?
Grooved?
Drilled and Grooved?
Price?
Anything else?

It's one thing I've not done much research in or put much more thought into than what they look like and their price.

I'm more interested in what considerations are made when buying for a Cosworth, Focus RS, etc with a bit of power behind them, not what discs you put on your 1.1 Fiesta

I prefer standard vented discs, Gone are the days of drilled and grooved discs. I bought a big brake conversion for my RS and annoyingly it came with grooved discs, I still fit them though.

I'm just not a fan of them anymore. i think they should stay where they belong, on those expensive supercars.

I understand they serve a purpose and for that reason i fit the discs to my car.... Although my biggest hatred is seeing them on the usual boyracer cars that have no go and really don't need modified brakes.

General rule of thumb is don't buy cheap shite obviously.
Are we talking standard cossie brakes here? If it were me i'd go drilled/grooved vented, basically anything to stop them warping if you're keeping the std size. Personally I don't really give much of a thought about it with updated brakes as you generally get good quality discs with a proper kit anyway.

Yeah I know what you mean Mark, drilled and grooved discs on 1.2 Corsas

Yeah that goes without saying Rog. No, not standard, 324mm Focus RS discs. I'm thinking drilled and grooved anyway but just wondered if there were makes of discs, pros and cons, etc that people think of or have any advice on when considering what discs to buy. Or do what I normally do and just buy a set that aren't dirt cheap and have probably been made in a shed haha.

All drilled discs crack eventually, so should be avoided unless you're happy to replace them when they do.

Never considered that before, maybe avoid the drilled.

Have always been faithful to grooved discs with the most evil hard baatard pads I could find. Always noisey but seemed to work.

I'm running genuine brembo normal discs and carbon Loraine pads on my Clio trophy now and there awesome for std size breaks ( my previouse car was a 260bhp Ibiza with 310mm brembo 4 pots) there really progressive and hold hear well, quiet to. Really fucking dusty though :/
