My uncles 55 plate plate smokes a hell of a lot on start up, blue smoke, but after a couple of minutes once driving it seems to be ok, seems to drive ok too. Its been in and out of the garage where he bought it from (not a ford dealer) loads and the mechanic cant seem to find any problem. He's had it on a diagnostics machine with no faults found. Any idea what it could be? I know diesels can smoke a little but this is excessive, like clouds of the stuff

Sorry not got anything useful to input, but is this the state of modern day so called mechanics? Plug it into a machine and if it doesn't give a code then they don't know what's wrong? Very poor.

Yes its very poor, he had it in the garage for 2 weeks and found nothing, so when my uncle called to ask for progress he just said he'd found nothing, but would he like it back (my uncle stupidly said yes, I would have told him to keep it until it was sorted).

I could be the injectors dribbling. The valve stem oil seals could ve nackered.
