Default series 2 RS Turbo daily?

Hey I've already got an RS turbo which I built from the shell up, I've got a 05 fiesta ST atm as my daily but miss my old orion I had before that. I'm thinking of getting another series 2 RS turbo as a daily I do 50 miles a day to work and back.

do any of you guys use a RS Turbo as a daily?
if so whats it like on reliability and as general use as a daily?

my series 2 I have at the moment has been really reliable just want to see what you lot think.

cheers
Martin

My dad used a 200+bhp s2 for years as a daily, me and my brother worked at kwick fit so sorted any issues quickly

But only real issue he had was he selected the wrong gear when having a tear up with a scooby and bent all the valves, and I fixed it the next day

Otherwise it was just staying on top of the servicing and regular oil changes

Used a xr3i I converted to rs turbo as a daily for 2 years.
Drove it with a bit of mechanical sympathy and it was sensible speck ( 15psi, front mount and am exhaust )

And it's was fine. Bit grumpy on cold mornings. And it blew a hose once but apart from that it was 20k of plain sailing

Serviced it a lot mind you. And it ate spark plugs.

It'd be the bodywork I'd worry about if I used a bean tin as a daily... all the salt n shite on the roads will not be good news for them.

I did and it had its moments.

they are ok if they have been looked after properly. Issues I had with mine were alarm related...once the clutch quadrant broke but was soon replaced metal one,

I loved the attention it got and it was always parked safely at work

Aye as above if you can keep them secure and well serviced their good cars.
An efi conversion might improve it even more and push it more towards the 21st century.
No pas is a pain but I used rs turbos on and off for years and none were ever real minters,no real issues.
Good cars.

I had one years ago and it was the most unreliable car I ever owned!!

Saying that though, it wasn't the best of examples and I was only 19 or 20 at the time and wasn't earning great money so I struggled to run and maintain it.

I've been using mine daily for the last 8 months and to be honest its been great. Not really had any issues with it at all but i'm not keen on using it now the weather is getting worse so i think it'll be getting tucked away and just brought out on the odd day until better weather.

My only negative input regarding using one as a daily is the worry about leaving it parked in various areas.

Agree with that comment. Cars were built to be driven.

2 things I've found. They arent very secure, and driving like a nun around town and dual carriageways mix of driving, 22mpg is the best you'll get. At £1.45 litre of 97 octane thats pricey.

When you buy one, first thing to do is full rolling road set up as 99 percent of the shit for sale needs it

Full service and cambelt and water pump, as people with modified cars seem too think a cambelt will last for ever lol

Get an efi car and fit a ofam ecu and mapp it for fuel economy

Bet you could mapp it too do mid 30s mpg with 200bhp pretty easily aslong as it's not thrashed everywhere

i think an s2 would be a horrific daily if you've had anything remotely modern. Shite on fuel, heavy steering, noisy, rattly, hard ride, worry about leaving it anywhere, likely to be unreliable, poor image, etc. I'd consider another for the weekend but no way for a daily.

Think you just need a rely ratty one as I started to ruin my cars and you don't get new car features lol

Only problem i had with mine was the metering head playing up. If i was using one as a daily I'd put it on EFi.

as long as its in good nick i cant see why they cant be used as dailys just make sure any leaks are sorted quickly and keep it well serviced and undersealed mine was in bad condition when i got it and i used it as a daily car only came off the road for the normal bodywork issues

That's why aftermarket management is the way forward with closed loop fueling

I bet someone like chip could get your car on a economy run to do over 30mpg with ms and closed loop

Aye that'd make a difference, but the vast majority off cars for sale will already be rotting to some extent underneath, behind the skirts, arches etc... so I think that undersealing it will only mask that for so long. Saying that, if you bought a properly restored and completely rot free example, you'd be mad to use it as a daily, so it's a catch 22 for me anyway.

Pretty much sums it up for me... and the reason I stopped using mine as a daily. Got tired of shitty wee bits failing, sitting in heavy traffic with a big clutch, fans on, temps creeping up, no AC, shit scared of leaving it anywhere because of thieving cunts being mad keen on an old Fordy.

Was retired to a weekend/occasional car after I bought my Impreza as a daily and the RST gave me NO issues whatsoever in that role.. but was still able to enjoy all its the good points.

Cheers,
Grant

Jesus thats shocking economy, my 2.0 ZT is really good on fuel, easily does 50miles for £20 super unleaded if not more miles, never bothered working it out.
