thinking about buying a cat c/d frs and converting it into a track/road car running cosworth rwd but was just wondering what fabrication work was needed to get it all to fit?

Floor/tunnel, mounts, rear setup, removing spare wheel well, poss suspension struts to suit you needs plus lots of relocating fuel tank, pump, abs etc

Is there not a kit in America so that you can stick a V8 in a focus.

the kegal kit from america was basicly a bolt in kit, and i saw it on their demo car in cali, and drove the demo car, a lot of uk builders go the weld everything in route, but if you do pic searches on google u will find a lot of america conversions done with very little welding, but they do use a solid rear axle, most uk builds seem to go independent rear

The big problem with the USA cars is if you look at them there up in the air you can not sit them down to make them look like they sould . The best thing I can say mate if you won't pop down to Birmingham and we can show you awer cars which we are doing . My focus Cosworth is going on the road in just over a weeks time . Dinglas car is all so down here in Birmingham at the mo but it will be going home to Yorkshire very soon we all so have a mate that's using the focus Rs motor and making it rwd

The good thing about the bolt on kits over here IMO is that you wont be effecting the "identity" of the vehicle by welding in a sierra floor as its merely a "bolt on modification".

Also means you wont fall foul of the "radically altered vehicle" rules for the same reasons.

Plenty here might argue no one pays attention to that with current cossie conversions but the way things are going with MoT and VOSA, this IS an area they are looking to clamp down on in the future. Theyve already done it on kit cars with SVA/IVA and clamping down on dodgy engine swaps etc and donor part scams to get age related plates instead of a q plate.

Modified cars have been on VOSA's radar for a while, they just havent had the motivation to tackle the issue where as crashes and incidents in recent years and a shift in policys as well as moving towards common EU guidelines in many areas means we WILL be targeted soon.
