Default Bimmer 330D - quick question

Hiya,

Quick question re servicing for the above, hoping someone can help. What would be changed during a typical service (not major) for the above car? So far ive had done by the same garage over the past week, but at different times (too annoyed to explain why right now!);

Oil and filter
Fuel filter
x2 glow plugs (were throwing a fault code)

They are saying they will stamp the book as an oil and filter change but not a service. I'm wondering what else would need to be done to consider it a full service?

Ta
Matt

A full service would involve more than just the basic engine fluids, the braking system would need checking as well as the tyres, then all the other fluid levels around the car. there is probably an inspection list somewhere on one of the BMW forums.

Matt

Oil service is Oil, filter, microfilter

Inspection 1 Oil filter, Microfilter, Pollen Filter, Fuel filter

Then obviously they check tyes brakes etc

BMW will stamp an oil service and so should independents, this is due at 18K, 36K inspection 1 and so on.

I suggest an intermittent oil change every 9K though

Mine has been remapped with exhaust, decat etc since 28K, now got 170K on clock, on the rollers last month still made 240bhp 450+ft lb.

Thanks for the reply. They said they would stamp it as an oil service but not a full service, which is a bit of a bind as its got FSH at the moment. Maybe I'll get them to stamp that and take it somewhere more clued up on BMs and get a service done later.

Good figures there I'll get mine remapped one day soon - best get the thing running properly first though!

TBH it sounds like they do already know what they are talking about as all you've had done is an oil service (minus the microfilter) and the fuel filter..

seem like they've only got to ad the pollen and Microfilter and brake / visual check over to make it into a full inspecion 1 service.. I would just get them to do the extra to make it up to the inspection 1 service and get it all done in one go.

If you take it somewhere else now you'll be asking them to stamp an inspection 1 service when they are only doing half the work as the oil and filter and fuel filter have been done elsewhere.. not sure they will do that for you as if there's a problem with some element of the service where do you take it back to ?

just my 2p..

Thanks for the reply.

To explain - the reason they are doing an oil and filter change for me is becuase they are doing this FOC. They fitted a faulty injector, "test drove it and it was fine", i test drove it and it started miss-firing after 5 minutes (never done this before), and also lost two of the engine cover bolts and replaced them with what look like two random ones they found lying round the workshop, plus i havent been too impressed with their service generally, plus its a fucking ballache for me not having a car (i travel for work). They are doing an oil and filter change for the inconvenience of all this, but once thats done i dont really want them touching the car again. I'm quite particular about who works on my car and if ive had even close to a bad experience somewhere i wont go back. Chap at work uses a BMW specialist and speaks highly of them so thats where im going next (poss for a full service as i said).

Appreciate the input though and take your point.
