Happend on my Focus ST after my dad had been out in it, rolled down our driveway into the garage door , luckily no damage hardly. Heard the bang and thought something had fallen upstairs in the house , went outside and the focus was sitting snug against the garage door

I usually always have the footbrake on whilst applying the handbrake , & on steep hills / inclines Leave it in gear too - hope your kid gets sorted without too much hassle

Update
Insurance hopeful of positive outcome with Ford over this
It could mean though big f!!! off sign ending up on the dashboards of all new St's and cars with similar setups though LOL
I think having a copper witness it makes a big difference when it comes to a court case if needed

Also the assessor that came out said on the balance of reason, would the average person or little old lady know that the car had rear disks and thus a different procedure to apply the hand brake and physical strength regardless of what is in the hand book

Top gear didn't mention the handbrake though on last nights review which was very good
rest assured the whole world will know if it isn't resolved according to him who is LOL as he has a Citroen hairdressers courtesy car at present

if it's written in the handbook how you should apply the handbrake and he didn't follow it, i would be very surprised if he will get anywhere with a claim against the manufacturer. that's the point of the handbook

Why would top gear mention the handbrake on a car test?

Its a normal setup used on millions of cars for many many years

If the driver is ignorant of how to use their vehicle properly (especially when its detailed in the handbook and the highway code/driving instruction tells you to turn the wheels into the kerb and leave in gear ) then its hardly noteworthy in a road test!!!

For that matter Clarkson didnt mention not to drive head on into a concrete bridge support also

I really cant see anyone paying out unless the car is found to be faulty

are you another plonker with no common sense and too lazy or stupid to read the handbook and leave it in gear with the wheels turned against the kerb? if so, good luck with a claim. i hope you're successful and push up the price of all of our premiums.

Lol.

I seek no compensation. However accountability must be taken by ford.
my car was serviced and the handbrake was adjusted incorrectly.

Not just Ford, many other cars with disk only parking brakes (unlike the ones with disks and smaller inbuilt parking brake drum have the same issue which is why most are now switching to servo motor auto handbrakes

Hearing all the time about other cars wondering off drives into the middle of the road at night

Still believe a parking brake should; be just that but it clearly isn't on some cars

Anyhow life moves on and the Festa went the other week after 2 years 3 months from new and he still got equity from options despite being a bit tatty now and scratched and he is now traded up to a brand new Merc AMG C class which has auto box and auto handbrake so no worry's and no weak clutch to nurse.

Just expensive bills when it goes wrong.

Whats wrong with leaving a car in gear too.

happened on a new astra in the village the other week, parked in a triangle bit by the shops in the middle of a junction, no kerbs etc to turn wheels against but it rolled across the road onto pavement and came to rest against a salt bin.. luckily no one was hurt and it took a while for the police to find the owner as it was a hire car..

I have no idea of the outcome with the insurance etc tho

Ford is not liable for this. If you read the manual which states;

Handbrake let go on 2013 ST Fiesta-1457080127554.jpg

The absolute minimum you should do when parking a car is leave it in gear with the handbrake on.

It's fairly simple, park car with hot brakes on handbrake, leave in neutral, brakes cool down, car rolls away.

The hand book will say leave in gear so I'm not sure why all these mongos think their cars are broke just read the handbook and remember your driving lessons

Have they ever stopped to think why an auto has a 'park' setting rather than just a neutral?

I think people forget what a hand brake is for though.

How many do you see sat in traffic with the foot on the brake cause there too lazy to pull the handbrake on.

Auto or manual, it makes no difference to how the handbrake should be used. One of my pet peeves is people who sit in traffic with their foot on the brake lol.

Default Handbrake let go on 2013 ST Fiesta

Me, when I was trying to work out why ford in their wisdom decided to put a spare wheel well in the car, then bolt some seats straight over the top of it

Yes mate, it comes with a tin of foam and a compressor which I doubt is worth a wank at the side of the road so really want a spare wheel in there. Tempted to just keep a t50 torx bit in the car so I can unbolt the seats to get the wheel out!
