Default V-belt tensioner conversion

Hi, I've an early 4WD engine and I'm interested if it's possible to install a V-belt tensioner like the late models to make the v-ribbed belt saver on higher revs? The notch on the early blocks must be in place, right? Engine isn't nearby, so I can't look atm. Guessing changing the pulleys isn't a prob.
Would buy a bosch alternator with 90A for the later models to avoid the alternator pulley change.

Cheers.
